The first of two scheduled shows, with a performance in London tomorrow night, the band was supported by blues rock guitarist Joanne Shaw Taylor backed by Virgil and the Accelerators.

Cheap Trick To Ring In New Year With 'Austin City Limits' Performance
For its first episode of the New Year, the award-winning PBS television series Austin City Limits welcomes famed American rockers Cheap Trick to the Studio 6A stage for a new, hour-long episode. The performance, recorded March 18, 2010 marks the iconic band’s first appearance on the show, and it premieres on PBS stations nationwide on January 1, 2011.
Performing classics like “I Want You to Want Me,” “Surrender,” and “Dream Police” plus tunes from its more recent body of work, veteran rockers Cheap Trick show ACL viewers that they’re still going strong, more than 30 years after forming in Rockford, IL in the early 1970’s.
“Moving confidently into the future while remaining convincingly rooted in the past? Now that’s a neat trick,” said The New Yorker of the band’s 2009 release, The Latest.
“Cheap Trick is timeless!’ exclaimed series executive producer Terry Lickona. “Actually, the band started at almost exactly the same time as Austin City Limits, so after 36 years it’s about time they finally hit our stage. And they are still at the top of their game!”

Sir Keef? London's Mayor Says Keith Richards Should Be Knighted
Spinner.com is reporting : What with striking Tube drivers and the like, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Boris Johnson, the tonsorially-challenged Mayor of London, had enough on his plate at the moment. But with the New Year honours list just around the corner, it seems that he's found the time to come out in support of Keith Richards by demanding a knighthood for the Rolling Stones guitarist.
Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Johnson blasts former Prime Minister Tony Blair for knighting Sir Mick Jagger while passing over the man known as the 'Human Riff' saying, "It is a continuing scandal that Keef Richards has not been made, at the very least, a knight bachelor, and the outrage became clear to me this Christmas when -- like so many other men of my generation -- I was sentenced to 'Life.' That is, I was given a copy of Keef's super-selling autobiography of that name; and by the end of my researches I felt the full weight of the injustice."

Uriah Heep Begins Recording New Studio Album
According to Blabbermouth.net, legendary progressive heavy rock veterans Uriah Heep have entered Liscombe Park Studios in Buckinghamshire, England to begin recording their next album of all-new material for a 2011 release.
Uriah Heep recently announced plans to release a new live album, "Official Bootleg Volume Ii - Live in Budapest, Hungary 2010", containing recordings from the band's May 4, 2010 concert at the Petofi Hall in Budapest Hungary. The band said, "There are going to be many more recordings from around the world, as this will be an ongoing series, giving fans the chance to hear the band in many different countries.
"These recordings are true official bootlegs in every sense and they reflect that nights performance as it happened, totally untouched. You can almost feel that you are at the concert, so put the CD on, turn it up loud, close your eyes and enjoy a night in Budapest with Uriah Heep."
"Celebration", the latest album from Uriah Heep, was released in North America on March 16, 2010 via a new deal between DisManic Distribution and Knife Fight Media.
Heep history has been an extraordinary journey and it was time that their greatest classics were recorded in studio by the lineup playing them live to fans all over the world for more than 20 years.
For "Celebration", the band re-recorded twelve of their most successful songs - classics like "Free Me", "Gypsy", "The Wizard", "Easy Livin'", and, of course, their all-time smash hit "Lady in Black". In addition to that, they composed and recorded two completely new songs as a special gift to their fans: "Only Human" and "Corridors of Madness", two of their best tracks in years.

Former Eric Johnson Drummer Bill Maddox Killed In Botched Burglary
Drummer Bill Maddox, who formerly played with guitar wizard Eric Johnson, was killed in his home during a burglary in Southwest Travis County on Monday morning. He was 57.Two men were shot and one killed during a home burglary in southwest Travis County early Monday, according to the Travis County Sheriff's Office. The Travis County Medical Examiner confirmed that Maddox's body was at their office, but the results of an autopsy were being withheld by the Sheriff's Department.
The intruder, identified by KVUE News in Austin as 63 year old John Debrecht, was shot and injured, and taken by StarFlight to University Medical Center Brackenridge, authorities said. His condition is unknown.
Maddox and Johnson, along with Stephen Barber and Kyle Brock were members of the Electromagnets, a popular jazz-rock fusion band that debuted at the Nickel Keg in San Marcos in San Marcos.According to a website on the band , Electromagnets was influenced by Weather Report and Chick Corea. Most of their material was instrumental.
Maddox went on to play with various bands, including reunions of the 'Magnets, in the Austin area. He appears on several of Johnson's albums, 1996's 'Venus Isle', 1998's 'Seven Worlds', Alien Love Child's 'Live and Beyond' in 2000, and most recently on Johnson's 2005 release 'Bloom'. He also played in Omar and the Howlers.
Travis County Spokesman Roger Wade said the homeowner called 911 and said the home was being burglarized around 7:30 a.m.
There are a lot of very good drummers out there, but when you see a great one, you know it,” said Musicmakers owner David Baldry, who grew up in Abilene with a tightknit group that included Barber, Johnson, bassist Kyle Brock, vintage rocker Johnny Dee and Austin City Limits Live general manager Tim Neece. “Bill Maddox was a great drummer.”
Chris Maresh played bass with Maddox in Alien Love Child, Johnson’s bluesy side-project. “He brought so much energy to the band,” Maresh recalled. “He was like Mitch Mitchell of the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
Maddox also played guitar and was a passionate collector of vintage Fender guitars, an expensive hobby he could afford because he worked for Dell Computers when the company started.
“At first I think he worked on the loading dock,” Maresh said, “but it ended up being quite lucrative because Billy bought every stock option he could.”(Photo credit : Steve Wheeler)

Mick Jagger Picks His Top 10 Classic Blues Songs
Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger has named his 10 favorite classic blues songs, as part of Rolling Stone magazine’s “Playlist” series, which features famous artists listing their top music in various categories. Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards compiled a list of his 10 favorite roots and reggae songs as part of the series.
Jagger tells Rolling Stone: “I tried to cover different styles and eras, although it is weighted toward the ‘50s. Pop music in Britain used to be filtered through a big machine. With these records, you got the feeling that it was coming to you directly, with an earthiness that spoke of another existence. John Lee Hooker, Memphis Slim, Big Bill Broonzy — they were also on television. It was considered folk art in Britain. It was slightly patronizing, but the essence of it was out there.”
Here is Jagger’s list:
1. “I Got to Go” Little Walter, 1955
2. “First Time I Met the Blues” Buddy Guy, 1960
3. “40 Days and 40 Nights” Muddy Waters, 1956
4. “Stones in My Passway” Robert Johnson, 1937
5. “Lonely Avenue” Ray Charles, 1956
6. “Cold Shot” Stevie Ray Vaughan, 1984
7. “Everybody Knows About My Good Thing” Z.Z. Hill, 1982
8. “Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground” Blind Willie Johnson, 1927
9. “Forty Four” Howlin’ Wolf, 1954
10. “Going Down” Freddie King, 1971

Ozzy Osbourne Wants To Ban Christmas
Today's holiday good cheer comes courtesy of The Toronto Sun, which reports Ozzy Osbourne wants to ban Christmas - he's branded the excitement and hype of the festive season "a wind-up".
The former Black Sabbath frontman is adamant most modern festive traditions have little to do with the true meaning of the Christian festival.
And he can no longer tolerate Yuletide since he quit booze, because he always treated the seasonal holidays as the "perfect excuse" to get drunk.
In his health column for The Sunday Times Magazine, Osbourne writes, "Christmas should be banned. Full stop. Although when I was drinking, I thought it was great, 'cos it was the perfect excuse to get blasted... Now I can't stand any of it.
"All this '10 more shopping days to go' b**locks is such a wind-up. I ain't exactly Mr Holy, but what's that got to do with Baby Jesus being born?... The faster we get to New Year's Day 2011, the better."
Despite Mr. Osbourne's wish to ban the holiday, we at Nightwatcher's House Of Rock would like to wish all who celebrate a peaceful, healthy, wonderful Christmas Day!
Here's a delightful version of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" from the late great Ronnie James Dio. Ronnie loved Christmas, so we're sure he would love it if you listened to this song.

Hendrix Biopic Killed By Request Of Hendrix Estate
Gibson.com is reporting that a planned Jimi Hendrix biopic has been respectfully dropped at the request of Experience Hendrix, overseers of the Hendrix estate.
The film had secured financing from Legendary Pictures, and Oscar-nominated director Paul Greengrass had committed to the project. The Hurt Locker's Anthony Mackie was set to star in the film. But Deadline New York reports that the Hendrix estate was concerned that the movie could possibly hurt sales of the back catalog, which Deadline says supposedly happened to The Doors catalog following Oliver Stone's biopic.
Deadline says the film could have been made with songs Hendrix covered but did not write, as these are not controlled by Experience Hendrix, but that the filmmakers refused to move forward without the approval of the estate. Deadline says Legendary Pictures chief Thomas Tull, who financed the guitar documentary It Might Get Loud, was motivated purely by the prospect of making a studio-caliber movie about his hero. "Unless Experience Hendrix has a change of heart, the movie has gone up in flames," Deadline says.

Legendary Captain Beyond, Iron Butterfly Guitarist "Rhino" Reinhardt To Release Brand New Studio Album 'Back In The Day' In January
On January 10, 2011 legendary Captain Beyond/Iron Butterfly guitarist "Rhino" Reinhardt will release a brand new studio album 'Back In The Day' world-wide via RLD Records .
For the album, credited to Rhino and the Posse, Reinhardt's band consists of Mike Koch keyboards, Frankie Lombardi drums, Pedro Arevalo bass and Don Bonzi guitars, all of whom were in ex Allman Brothers Band guitarist Dickey Betts' Great Southern prior to his sudden retirement from live performance in December 2009.
Reinhardt started out in the late 60's as a member of The Second Coming with future Allman Brothers founders guitarist Dickey Betts and bassist Berry Oakley. When the two helped form the Allman Brothers in 1969 with brothers Gregg and Duane Allman and drummers Butch Trucks and Jaimoe Johanson, the guitarist joined acid rockers Iron Butterfly for the recording of their 4th studio album 'Metamorphosis'.
When the band imploded during a tour of Europe in 1971, he along with Butterfly bassist Lee Dorman joined forces with original Deep Purple vocalist Rod Evans and ex Johnny Winter drummer Bobby Caldwell in heavy rock supergroup Captain Beyond. With the band, albeit with an ever changing lineup, he recorded three albums 1972's cult classic self titled effort, 1973's 'Sufficiently Breathless' and 1977's 'Dawn Explosion'.
Since the band's break up he has been a part of numerous reunion tours with both Iron Butterfly and Captain Beyond, which included an acclaimed performance by the latter band at 1999's Sweden Rock Festival.
Since the last disbanding of Captain Beyond in 2002, Reinhardt released the solo album 'Rhino's Last Dance' in 2008. For more information go to this location.

Alice Cooper : "I'm So Happy That The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Nomination Was For The Original Band"
Rock AAA is reporting Alice Cooper says his original band have always been victims of the “misconception” they were more concerned with theatre than music – when the reverse was true. And their upcoming induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a good enough reason to reunite and play a series of major city shows.
The band known as Alice Cooper formed at school and released a stack of world-class tracks – including I’m Eighteen, School’s Out and the acclaimed 1973 album Billion Dollar Babies – before splitting up, leaving frontman Cooper to continue with the same name.
Now the shock rocker tells Rolling Stone: “When I heard we’d made it into the Hall of Fame I called the original band guys immediately and said, “Remember when we started in high school? Here we are. It only took 45 years.”
Cooper believes the band didn’t get the recognition they deserved in their heyday: “People didn’t take us seriously, musically. But we had two number one albums, 14 top 40 hits and 15 gold albums. I think there was a misconception – but we were much more concerned with the music than the theatrics”
The Alice Cooper band are aiming to play some reunion shows early next year alongside their appearance at the Hall of Fame induction in March.
Their frontman says: “We broke up in 1976, and I understand why we became exhausted. It was never a bitter break-up – it was, ‘I have different ideas, you have different ideas, but let’s still be friends’.
“We’ve done a couple of things together in recent years, but we’ve been looking for an excuse to do more. Why not do four or five major cities? Detroit because that’s where we broke out of, and LA, New York, London and Toronto – the cities where we got our major push.”
Cooper’s only regret is that original guitarist Glen Buxton, who died in 1997, won’t be there to take the credit for his 1970s work: “Glen was our Keith Richards – he lived that life until it killed him, which was too bad.
“But I’m so happy the Hall of Fame nomination was for the original band.”

Don Van Vliet Aka Captain Beefheart Passes Away Aged 69
Don Van Vliet, who blended rock, blues, psychedelia and free jazz under the stage name Captain Beefheart, died today at the age of 69, after years of battling multiple sclerosis. As a musician he recorded with a number of rotating artists under the name Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band. The album considered his magnum opus, 1969's "Trout Mask Replica," was ranked 58th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The Beatles' John Lennon and Paul McCartney were known as great admirers of Beefheart.
Van Vliet was born in Glendale, Calif., and was an avid painter and sculptor as a child. He became friends with Frank Zappa while in high school, and collaborations with Zappa - which include supplying the vocals for "Willie The Pimp" on 1969's 'Hot Rats'- helped launch a musical career that lasted until the early 1980s, when he largely abandoned music to concentrate on a well-received career as a visual artist.

Motörhead's Lemmy Tells How He Stole Hawkwind Job
Rock AAA is reporting that Motorhead hero Lemmy discovered his instrument by accident when a Hawkwind bassist failed to turn up for a gig.
And he says it’s a good thing too – because he was never very good on guitar.
In a video interview with The Quietus Lemmy explains: “I was mediocre at guitar. I couldn’t play lead to save my life, or yours. I went for a job with Hawkwind as a guitar player but they didn’t need one.
“The bass player didn’t show up because it was a free gig, but like an idiot he left his bass in the gear van. It was like, ‘Please steal my gig,’ – so I stole his gig.
“They wanted me in the band, so when someone asked ‘Who plays bass?’ they said, ‘He does’. I went, ‘Asshole’ – because I’d never played bass in my life.
“But I must have done something right because I was with them for four and a half years. I found my instrument. I could really play and do something unique on it. Nobody can copy my style – it’s still unique.”
Elsewhere in the conversation Lemmy remembers the first rock’n’roll revolution, explaining: “You’ll never understand what it was like the first time. There was nothing, then there was Bill Haley, Fats Domino, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, all within two years – then they were all gone.
“It was like a punk thing: two years, bang, gone. There will be something with that impact again, but we won’t like it. And that’s just the way it should be.”

Alice Cooper Has Jimi Hendrix To Thank For Longtime Manager
According to Contactmusic.com, Alice Cooper owes Jimi Hendrix his career - because the guitar legend introduced the shock rocker to his longtime manager.
The shock rock legend has been represented by Shep Gordon since the 1960s - and it was only because of Hendrix that the pair met in Los Angeles, launching Cooper's band's career.
He tells Britain's Daily Express: "My manager for the last 40 years has been Shep Gordon. In the late Sixties, Shep met Jimi at an L.A. hotel pool with (soul band) The Chambers Brothers. When Jimi asked Shep what he did he replied he didn't know yet. Jimi replied: 'Are you Jewish? You should be a manager.'
"One of The Chambers Brothers then said, 'There's a rock band living in our basement and they need a manager.' If Jimi hadn't been sunbathing that day who knows where we all might have ended up?"
The Alice Cooper Band will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame March 14.
"Getting in the Hall Of Fame is about the ultimate thing you can do when you're a garage band from Cortez High in Phoenix," Cooper told Azcentral.com. "It's the most humbling thing in the world when you realize who else is in there. You look out at the audience, and every guy who influenced you is sitting there, and they are the people who voted on you."
Cooper and his original band - guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, drummer Neal Smith and late guitarist Glen Buxton - will be honored at a ceremony in New York City.

Drummer Bogie Bowles Departs The Joe Bonamassa Band
After five years, three studio albums, two live albums and hundreds of shows, drummer Bogie Bowles has announced he has left blues guitar titan Joe Bonamassa's band.
In a posting on Bonamassa's Official Message Board, Bowles issued the following statement :
"Hi Everyone, I just wanted to let you all know that I have decided not to come back next year. It has been an amazing five year run with Joe and everyone. It was full of great music, wonderful places, and all of you fantastic fans! I will certainly never forget it. I feel the time is right for me to move on with things personally and professionally and I'm very excited about a new future and new direction. The road has been great but I have grown tired of the lifestyle that goes with it.
I spoke with Joe after the gig in Ft. Myers and we had a great talk about everything and I'm certainly leaving on good terms. On the bus we all had some great laughs about our history together and all the times in new places and things like that. I went from the Martini Ranch in Phoenix to The Royal Albert to The Carre and all points in between. Bahrain, Israel, India, Japan, Australia, all over the US and Europe, Moscow, these are the places I got to go with this band while we were together. It has been a great ride. Thank you all so much for the love and support you've given me during my tenure here, it meant the world to me. Have a wonderful holiday season and a great New Year.
You all have my love, respect, and gratitude,
Bogie"
No replacement for Bowles has been announced as of yet. Prior to joining Bonamassa the drummer was a member of Kenny Wayne Shepherd's touring band, spending a year touring the U.S with the guitarist. He also appeared as a percussionist on former Black Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne's 'Prince Of Darkness' boxset which was released in 2005.

Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Joe Bonamassa To Auction Guitar Gear To Benefit Crossroads Centre
According to Spinner.com, a number of guitars, amps and speaker cabinets owned by Eric Clapton are to go under the hammer next year as the legendary guitarist attempts to raise money for his Crossroads Centre -- a rehab clinic based in Antigua. Clapton -- himself no stranger to drug and alcohol problems -- founded the clinic in 1998.
Among the 150 lots set to be auctioned in New York in 2011 are the guitar Clapton played at the 2005 Cream reunion gigs as well the speaker cabinets used in the early 1970s when the guitarist was with Derek and the Dominoes.
Also up for auction are guitars donated by the alliterative trio of Jeff Beck, J.J. Cale and Joe Bonamassa.
Stephanie Connell, head of entertainment memorabilia at Bonhams, said, "We are delighted to be offering such a fantastic collection of guitars and amps from such an iconic musician."
Previous auctions held by the legendary fret-worrier have raised some extraordinary amounts of money. His Fender Stratocaster -- affectionately known as 'Blackie' -- was sold for an eye-watering $959,500 (£607,500). 'Blackie' was fashioned by Clapton from several Stratocasters that he'd bought in Nashville and was regularly deployed between 1973 and 1991.
Speaking to Associated Press in 2007, Clapton said of the clinic, "I haven't had a drink or drug for quite a long time and it's changed my life completely. That's something I want to pass on and share with other people."

This Is The End : 40 Years On, The Doors' Jim Morrison Pardoned For Indecent Exposure
Forty years after Jim Morrison was convicted of exposing himself at a wild Miami concert, this is the end: Florida's Clemency Board, egged on by departing Gov. Charlie Crist, pardoned The Doors' long-dead singer Thursday according to The Associated Press.
Some people who were at the Miami show March 1, 1969, insist even today that he exposed himself, though others in the audience and Morrison's bandmates contend he was just teasing the crowd and only pretended to do the deed. Crist, tuned in to the controversy by a Doors fan, said there was enough doubt about what happened at the Dinner Key Auditorium to justify a pardon.
The board, which consists of Crist and a three-member Cabinet, voted unanimously to pardon Morrison on indecent exposure and profanity charges as they granted several other pardons Thursday. At the hearing, the governor called the convictions a "blot" on the record of an accomplished artist for "something he may or may not have done."
He said Morrison died before he was afforded the chance to present his appeal, so Crist was doing that for him. Board members pointed out several times that they couldn't retry the case but that the pardon forgave Morrison and negated his sentence.
"In this case the guilt or innocence is in God's hands, not ours," Crist said.
Morrison had received a six-month jail sentence — never served — and a $500 fine for the 1970 convictions, which carried consequences for the band. Ray Manzarek, The Doors' keyboard player, said Miami was supposed to be the start of a 20-city tour, but every venue canceled after Morrison's arrest.
"We had the mandate of heaven, and I think at that moment, he lost the mandate of heaven," Manzarek said. "In the recording studio, the magic stayed, but I think at that moment in Miami, the live performance magic left for a little while and then came back intermittently."
Morrison's appeals were never resolved. He was found dead in a Paris bathtub in 1971 at age 27. No official cause of death was ever issued — his manager said he died of "natural causes."
Manzarek and Doors guitarist Robby Krieger supported the pardon because they say Morrison never exposed himself, though they agreed Florida's move will have little effect on Morrison's wild, outsized, drug-addled rock 'n' roll image.
"Jim's legacy is one of Dionysian madness and frenzy and of a chaotic American poet. I don't think that the Miami episode has altered his image one iota," Manzarek said.
The pardon isn't enough for Patricia Kennealy Morrison, who says she married Morrison in a ceremony that was never made official. She wanted the convictions expunged and called the pardon "a complete cheap, cynical, political ploy."
"I have a real problem with the semantics of a pardon. The pardon says that all his suffering and all that he went through during the trial, everything both of us went through, was negated," she said.
Kennealy Morrison says she exchanged vows with Morrison in a Celtic pagan ceremony. Morrison left his entire estate to another woman, Pamela Courson, a longtime girlfriend who was with him when he died. Courson died in 1974.
Kennealy Morrison said Morrison's convictions led to his demise, and that of the band. She said he felt like he "had been made a scapegoat of the counterculture movement."
"He cared about it. It affected him deeply. In fact, I think it was one of the contributory causes of his death, actually. It certainly destroyed The Doors, pretty much. They didn't perform so much as a group after Miami, after the verdict came through," she said.
Manzarek and Krieger said Morrison's main interest in appealing the case was avoiding jail time.
"He wouldn't give a (expletive)" about a pardon, Krieger said. "He would think it was old news."
Here's what most people who were at the concert agree on: The Doors went on stage late. The auditorium was oversold and wasn't air conditioned. Morrison was drunk and stopped in the middle of songs with an anti-authority, profanity-riddled rant.
A live lamb was brought on stage at one point, and Morrison also grabbed a police officer's hat and threw it in the crowd. The singer took off his shirt and fiddled with his belt, and fans poured onto the stage.
"There were 100 photos offered in evidence at the trial, photos of everything — Jim with the lamb, Jim with the hat, on the stage collapsing, riot in the audience. Not one photo of Jim's magnificent member," said Manzarek.
"It never actually happened. It was mass hypnosis," he said.
Krieger added: "Nobody would like to have that charge hanging over their head even if they are dead. I'm sure his family would be happy to see that go, especially since it never happened."
While Morrison denied exposing himself, he defended the use of nudity in theater even after his arrest. And he never toned down his lifestyle.
The fact that Morrison didn't change his life is exactly why he shouldn't have been pardoned, said retired Miami police sergeant Angel Lago, who came to Tallahassee to speak against the pardon. While he wasn't on the police force at the time of the concert, he said a friend testified at the trial that Morrison exposed himself. He firmly said his friend wouldn't have lied under oath.
"The man is not worthy of this. I don't care if he was a poet, I don't care if he walked on water," Largo told reporters during a break in the meeting.
Crist, a Republican-turned-independent, began considering a pardon for Morrison in 2007 after fan David Diamond of Dayton, Ohio, contacted him, and began pursuing it after he lost a bid for U.S. Senate last month. He steps down as governor next month.

Robert Plant On Zeppelin Reformation Rumors - "It's Almost As If People Can't See That I Have Other Projects"
According to Tourdates.co.uk, Robert Plant would rather listen to wailing Berber music than reform Led Zeppelin.
The singer dissolved the rock band after the death of drummer John Bonham in 1980 and despite frequently being approached about reforming with the group's remaining surviving members - Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones - for a full tour he always turns them down.
The musician insists he is more interested in working on other projects - such as playing with nomadic Berber and Tuareg musicians from the tribes of North Africa.
He said: "It's almost as if people can't see that I have other projects. It's like a woman with white heels and a pencil skirt passing by will attract my eyes, but most will miss it completely.
"But yes, some shrieking Berber music, blues musician Charley Patton, paying your own way to the Sahara to sing - it's insane. But if you want to play with the Tuareg, you've got to get there."

New Dio Song To Be Released Next Year?
One last song which Ronnie James Dio nearly completed before his death will be released next year, says former Dio member Craig Goldy.
The title of the track hasn’t been revealed, but the guitarist says hearing it is an emotional experience, as the singer dealt with his battle against cancer, which he lost in May at the age of 67.
Goldy told Classic Rock magazine: “The lyrics deal with what Ronnie was going through at the time. It’s hard to listen without a lump in your throat.
“We were working on tracks for a new album just before Ronnie died, and we almost finished this song. Wendy Dio has been talking about reissuing the Magica album with bonus tracks, including this one.”
Magica was originally released in 2000, and Dio was working on two follow-up albums when he died. The only track which has previously appeared is "Electra", of which the singer said: “It’s a really good song, and part of the whole Magica trilogy. It’s hard for it to stand alone, so I did write an explanation of what it was about. It’s just a brief glimpse into what will be Magica again. There are some special plans.”
Dio also sang "Metal Will Never Die" on 'Bitten by the Beast', the recent solo album from his cousin David ‘Rock’ Feinstein, who was a member of Elf.

Guitar Virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel To Release New Studio Album 'Little By Little' In February
Two-time Grammy nominated Australian virtuoso guitarist Tommy Emmanuel, is set to release his all new 2-disc album Little By Little on February 15, 2011 on Steve Vai's Favored Nations label. On Feb. 3, he kicks off a string of U.S. tour dates beginning with three days of TommyFest - a concert series dedicated to the promotion of great acoustic guitar music - in Elizabethtown, KY before moving to shows on both the West and East Coasts.
As the Swahili proverb says, all things are possible if you just take it little by little, step by step. This was the inspiration behind the album title, Little By Little.
Emmanuel explains, "The proverb holds a special significance to me because it's a lesson I had to learn in my life - to take things one day at a time and not be so concerned about tomorrow and I think that's an important lesson to learn." Emmanuel describes the album as "a joy to make" but says "it took a lot longer than any other project I've ever done purely because the songs kept coming. With this album, I was really pleased that all these elements came together so I could get that message across through my music and get a good positive message out there to people."
The 24 tracks, spread over two discs, brilliantly showcase Emmanuel's distinctive "finger style" playing, using all ten fingers, and features collaborations with special guests Rick Price, Anthony Snape, Victor Wooten, Doyle Dykes, Dr. John Knowles(CGP), Pam Rose and others. The album's tempo moves from break-neck, in-your-face finger-picking tunes such as "Locomotivation," "The Might Mouse," and "The Welsh Tornado" that have their roots in Merle Travis, Jerry Reed and Chet Atkins to more melodic songs such as the title track "Haba Na Haba," -; Swahili for "little by little" -; which is featured twice both as an instrumental version and a vocal version with Anthony Snape and Pam Rose. The album also includes live favorites such as "Ruby's Eyes," "The Fingerlakes," "Jolly Swagman," and "Papa George" which have never been recorded in a studio.
Recognized as the elite of the elite and arguably the greatest living acoustic guitar player, Emmanuel has mesmerized both fellow musicians and audiences alike with a professional career that spans nearly five decades. Emmanuel's dazzling performance, flawless guitar skills and voluminous repertoire never fail to amaze and engage his legions. From the wilds of Australia's outback to the bustling major cities throughout the world, Emmanuel's flair, unforgettable showmanship and exhaustive world wide touring schedule have created an enviable fan base that continues to grow even larger every year.
2010 has been an especially big year for Emmanuel. In June, he was voted Best Acoustic Guitarist in Guitar Player Magazine's 2010 Readers' Choice Awards. On July 26, he was honored as a Queen's Member of the Order of Australia for his service to the music and entertainment industries as a guitarist, and to the community as a supporter of the Australian charitable organization Kids Under Cover which works to build homes and provide scholarships for homeless and at risk youth. On Dec. 14, Emmanuel will be featured on the track "Much Too Soon" on Michael Jackson's much anticipated album of newly completed recordings entitled MICHAEL. And ending the year with a bang, Tommy will return to his home country for a series of special concerts with his brother, Phil and Tommy's full band, to celebrate 50 years of professional performance together.
