Cheap Trick To Ring In New Year With 'Austin City Limits' Performance

For its first episode of the New Year, the award-winning PBS television series Austin City Limits welcomes famed American rockers Cheap Trick to the Studio 6A stage for a new, hour-long episode. The performance, recorded March 18, 2010 marks the iconic band’s first appearance on the show, and it premieres on PBS stations nationwide on January 1, 2011.

Performing classics like “I Want You to Want Me,” “Surrender,” and “Dream Police” plus tunes from its more recent body of work, veteran rockers Cheap Trick show ACL viewers that they’re still going strong, more than 30 years after forming in Rockford, IL in the early 1970’s.

“Moving confidently into the future while remaining convincingly rooted in the past? Now that’s a neat trick,” said The New Yorker of the band’s 2009 release, The Latest.

“Cheap Trick is timeless!’ exclaimed series executive producer Terry Lickona. “Actually, the band started at almost exactly the same time as Austin City Limits, so after 36 years it’s about time they finally hit our stage. And they are still at the top of their game!”
