Sign Of The Apocalypse : Creed To Reunite for Album, Tour

Rollingstone.com is reporting that five years after their highly acrimonious split, Creed are reforming for a new album and an American tour, which kicks off August 6th in Pittsburgh and runs through October 14th.

“I wouldn’t call it a reunion,” says singer Scott Stapp. “It’s a renewing and a rebirth. I missed my boys and wanted to create music with them again. We’re all thrilled to have a second chance to make a first impression.”

Stapp and guitarist Mark Tremonti already have six demos for the new album, which they plan on recording shortly in Nashville. They are currently looking for a producer. “We’re reached out to Brendan O’Brien, Mutt Lange, Bob Rock, Steve Lillywhite and six or seven more,” says Stapp. “We want to put ourselves around the best and have them bring out the best in us and challenge us as artists.” The likely title track is “Full Circle.” “It’s a favorite for all of us,” says Stapp. “It really defines and articulates, melody-wise and lyrically, what’s happened with us. We’ve come full circle and it’s a great place to be. The goal is get release the first single before the tour and have the album come out during the tour or right after.” If you must have more info on this, go to this location.

Texas Blues Rock Guitar Legend Van Wilks Gets Live & Loud On New CD/DVD Package

Austin, Texas has produced some of the finest blues and rock axeslingers throughout the years. While most are familiar with the likes of Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan and Eric Johnson, one of the lesser known, although no less talented is the legendary Van Wilks.

In Austin Van Wilks has long been lauded as one of the city’s master players.

His talents as a guitarist and band leader have won him consistent critical praise and a string of honors that was capped when he was voted by Austin music fans into the Austin Chronicle’s "Texas Music Hall of Fame" alongside the state’s most legendary musical talents.

In his third decade as a veteran of the world-famous Austin music scene, Van Wilks "continues to make some of the city’s hottest guitar rock.", says the Austin Chronicle, creating music that brings his blues roots to the cutting edge with funk, hard-rock and melodic undertones. His compelling, hard-edged, bluesy rock prompted England rock mag Kerrang!(back when they were credible) to name Van Wilks’ 1980 Mercury Records release "Bombay Tears" as "one of my all time faves," declaring it "a masterpiece."

Declared "a perfect cross between Jimi Hendrix and Van Halen" by the Austin-American Statesman, the Houston Chronicle noted of one show: "By the end of the night we were all so delirious we wouldn’t let them go until they came out for several post-closing-time encores".

Now, hot on the heels of winning 'Best Electric Guitarist' and 'Best Acoustic Guitarist' last month at the annual Austin Chronicle SXSW Music Awards comes the release of a live CD/DVD package, 'Van Wilks Live & Loud From Austin, Texas'. Sign Of The Times : Former Rock Band Def Leppard Nominated For Three Country Music Awards

If you still harbored any illusions that Def Leppard were still a rock band, Geoff Barton of Classic Rock Magazine is reporting :

It’s enough to shatter your achy breaky heart. New Wave Of British Heavy Metal pioneers Def Leppard have received three first-round Country Music Television (CMT) award nominations.

The Leps’ duet with Taylor Swift on their song Photograph has been nominated for both CMT Performance Of The Year and Wide Open Country Video Of The Year – whatever that is.

The Sheffield band also have a second nomination in the Wide Open Country Video Of The Year category for their collaboration with Tim McGraw on their song Nine Lives.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are also among the nominees, which is more understandable.

Anyhow, you can see Leppard and Taylor Swift on stage together here. If you really must.

In further news, Slayer are said to be bitterly disappointed that their collaborations with Emmylou Harris (Honky Tonk Antichrist), Kenny Loggins (Hillbilly Awaits) and Willie Nelson (At Dawn They Sleep On The Front Porch) failed to make the CMT shortlist.

For those that remember, here's a clip of the Sheffield lads (who no doubt would be aghast at what they've become) from 1983, with a live version of "Wasted" from their 1980 debut 'On Through The Night' :

Gary Moore - "Cream's Jack Bruce Is "Probably The Most Talented Musician I Have Ever Played With"

Despite his love of the blues, UK guitar legend Gary Moore has kept an open mind throughout his career, gaining credits for collaborating with everyone from Ozzy Osbourne to Andrew Lloyd Weber.

“I have played with some great people,” he tells Eveningnews24.co.uk. “Otis Rush, BB King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, George Harrison, Mick Jagger….I even played on a Beach Boys album! Who am I most proud of? Well Jack Bruce is very talented, I loved him in his Cream days. He's probably the most talented musician I have ever played with.”

Moore's most renowned collaboration though is his time with Thin Lizzy and their infamous frontman Phil Lynott.

The pair met one another in the late '60s when Moore joined Lynott in his pre-Lizzy project Skid Row, where they played together for a matter of months before Lynott went off to form Island's finest while Moore stayed to make two albums with Skid Row before turning solo.

In 1974 Moore temporarily joined Thin Lizzy in between solo albums, an association that was rekindled when he joined their ranks again in 1979 to play on their 1979 album 'Black Rose: A Rock Legend'.

“I'll tell you how it started,” remembers Moore. “He said 'meet me tomorrow at nine in morning' and I thought 'what? Nine in the morning - how rock and roll is that?'

“Then I went to meet him and we had a walk round Belfast and he took me to a Chinese restaurant and made me order something he knew I wouldn't like that meant he got to eat mine as well - and it didn't stop there - he always took what was mine, booze, women… but I loved him to bits. I still miss him today.

“Phil was a great catalyst for what was going on. If you felt uncomfortable abut what was going on you could always go round and he would trivialise it - I was worried about punk and he said 'that's just rock with safety pins'.

“We were hanging out with the guys from the Sex Pistols - I think Thin Lizzy were accepted by the punk community because we weren't so much older than then. Bands like Yes and Led Zeppelin were really shunned, they were seen as dinosaurs.”

Allman Brothers Band Offering Massive Beacon Theatre Live Box Set

To commemorate their 40th anniversary, The Allman Brothers Band is releasing a Beacon Box live CD package, capturing all 15 sold-out shows (45 CD's) from the group's recent March stand at the venerable Beacon Theatre in New York City. This is the first time the band has made CDs available from their annual visits to New York, which date back to 1989 and includes 188 consecutive sold-out shows at the Beacon.

This run was dedicated to the memory of Duane Allman, seminal guitarist and founder of the band, and to help celebrate Duane's legacy, 60 special guests shared the stage with the Allman Brothers Band. The list includes a "Who's Who" of rock, jazz and jams greats, including Levon Helm, Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Boz Scaggs, Johnny Winter, Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Herring, John Bell, Stanley Clarke, Kid Rock, Bonnie Bramlett, Robert Randolph, John Hammond, Billy Gibbons, David Hidalgo, Cesar Rosas, Trey Anastasio, Page McConnell, Jerry Jammott, Bernard Purdie, Jimmy Smith, Chuck Leavell, Jimmy Hall, Susan Tedeschi, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and many others. Also appearing for two nights with the band was the inimitable Eric Clapton, who teamed with Duane Allman to record Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs in 1970; considered by many critics to be the finest guitar album of all time. This marked the first time Clapton had played with the Allman Brothers Band in a public setting.

The fact that the band performed at its considerable best in its 40th year is a remarkable testament to the talents of America's finest live performance group, and all the magic of timeless classics, newer tunes and spectacular cover songs shines through on the Beacon Box live CD package. The 15 historical shows will be packaged in a custom-made, serial numbered and hand-crafted box. In addition to the Beacon concerts, this box set will include a special bonus performance of the Allman Brothers Band at Warren Haynes' 20th annual Christmas Jam which occurred in December of 2008, which featured guests such as Robben Ford, Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones, Jeff Beck bassist Tal Wilkenfield and others. Also included in the box set will be 40 exclusive photos taken during the run by ABB Tour Mystic, Kirk West. Shows are also available on an individual basis as well.

Band You Should Know : Canada's Hard Rockin' Pride Tiger

Linked by their 'real record collection' of vinyl and a shared love of music from the 70's, Vancouver, Canada's Pride Tiger on their debut album 'The Lucky Ones' echo the the songwriting style and dual guitar leads of classic Thin Lizzy and other hard driving, organic heavy rockers of the era.

Originally released on EMI Records in Canada in 2007, the release caused quite a stir in their native country, garnering them a Juno nomination(Canadian music's equal of The Grammys) in 2008 for Best Rock Album of the year. Recently issued in Europe via Classic Rock Magazine's Powerage label, the band must be considered among the cream of the crop of neo classic rockers.

Dickey Betts Blasts Butch Trucks Over Robert Plant Velvet Pants Remarks

Former Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts has blasted the band's drummer Butch Trucks - accusing him of fabricating a clash between late rock legend Duane Allman and Robert Plant.

In a recent interview with Relix magazine, Trucks recalled Allman's alleged fury over seeing Led Zeppelin rocker Plant prancing around on stage in velvet trousers during a concert in 1969. He claimed his former bandmate had to be held back from attacking Plant after the stage antics, and had lost all respect for his idol.

Trucks said: "Robert Plant starts running all over the stage with his velvet pants on, and we were all looking at each other, (like) 'What the f**k is this?'
"It was as much about the ballet and the costumes as about the music, if not more so... Duane got up and said, 'I'm either going to go up there and kick the f**k out of that guy or we're leaving.' And we all got up and left. It just infuriated Duane. He was so let down by one of his gods."

But Betts, who left the Allman Brothers Band in 2000, is standing up for Allman - insisting the rocker wasn't "narrow-minded".

He tells the New York Post, "I know Duane didn't feel that way and never said that. We loved (Led Zeppelin guitarist, Jimmy) Page and those guys. It's ludicrous. And it's not fair to Duane Allman, who has passed away and can't speak for himself. He had velvet pants himself."

Allman died in 1971.

John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band Live In Toronto '69 To Get DVD Release In June

John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band’s only recorded concert is coming to Shout! DVD on June 23. Filmed live on the eve of the release of Abbey Road, this concert features Lennon paying homage to a couple of his heroes with covers of “Blue Suede Shoes,” and “Dizzy Miss Lizzy,” playing some Beatles (“Yer Blues” and “Money”) and the now-classic “Give Peace A Chance.” Also included on the disc is an interview with Yoko Ono from 1988.

John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band Live In Toronto ’69 is a rare look at one of the world’s most influential popular artists at a pivotal moment in his career. Filmed on the eve of the release of the Abbey Road LP — the last Beatles album to be recorded — this is the only performance ever caught on film of John Lennon & the Plastic Ono Band.

It had been three years since Lennon had performed onstage with The Beatles. Seemingly on a whim, John and wife Yoko Ono hopped on a plane with guitarist Eric Clapton, bassist Klaus Voormann and drummer Alan White to travel to the Toronto Rock ’N’ Roll Revival festival showcasing some of Lennon’s early musical heroes — among them Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Little Richard. As it turned out, Lennon and the newly formed Plastic Ono Band played an equally significant role that night in the history of rock ’n’ roll, as it is widely believed this concert foreshadowed the official end of The Beatles.

Captured by Academy Award®–nominated director D.A. Pennebaker (The War Room,Don’t Look Back, Monterey Pop), this concert film serves as one of the great historical documents in the career and life of John Lennon.

See You On The Dark Side Of The...Courtroom? Pink Floyd Sue EMI Records

Pink Floyd is the latest act to ask a record company to "please explain".

The band had reportedly filed a lawsuit against EMI over unpaid royalties.

The band, who signed to the label in 1967, are claiming that they are yet to receive royalties for sales of their back catalog.

The dispute is reported to have arisen during routine three-year negotiations with new owners Terra Firma, a private equity firm.

Terra Firma, who purchased the record company in 2007 for £4 billion and have since attempted to cut costs, is also blamed for the departure of acts including Radiohead and Paul McCartney.

EMI and Pink Floyd are yet to release a statement.

Battle Of The Ex Deep Purple Vocalists : In This Corner, Joe Lynn Turner, In That Corner, David Coverdale...Let's Rumble!

Yesterday, in an interview with former Rainbow/Deep Purple and current Over The Rainbow vocalist Joe Lynn Turner with Spain's The Metal Circus, Turner alleged that Whitesnake vocalist David Coverdale makes copious use of pre- recorded vocal tracks, even for the lead vocals during live performances.

When asked if he has ever used pre-recorded tapes for backing and/or lead vocals, Turner replied, "To be honest with you, I have one machine that helps sing the backgrounds — it's from DigiTech, and it's a great technology — but it's not samples, it's live; you have to sing into the microphone and then this machine will take your voice, whatever you put into this machine is exactly what you get. So if you sing like sh*t, it's gonna sound like shit. So there's no wizardry, there's no tapes.

Because recently I heard on the Internet that David Coverdale was using all kinds of tapes. Well, I was in Finland [in June 2008] with Graham Bonnet and we were on the same festival [Sauna Open Air) as Whitesnake, and I couldn't believe he was using these tapes — for lead singing! Not just backgrounds, but lead! And I was... My mouth was open. I was like, 'What the f**k, David?! You can't do this. You look so stupid, so foolish.' And everyone is complaining about this.

No, I'm singing live. This is what you get; that's it. . . I'm not trying to talk sh*t... This is true. Everybody sees this. . . I couldn't believe it, because he [David] was always one of my favorite singers. To use tapes for a lead vocal... I can understand backgrounds if the [rest of the bandmembers] don't sing. But for lead?! You've gotta be kidding!"

Now Coverdale has shot back. In a statement issued to Classic Rock Magazine he fiercly denies Turner's allegations, calling his claims "absolute balderdash"

Coverdale went on to tell the magazine,“I have no idea what the hell the daft bugger’s talking about.

“I do not, have not and will not use tapes of my voice to mime in concert. My band and I perform and sing live in concert. Yeah… we’re that fucking good! What a total prick.”

Coverdale continued: “We had these rumours in Germany last year while we were on tour with Alice Cooper and we actually had a journo [Frank Thiessis] sit out at the front-of-house mix to verify the rumours were unfounded.

“It’s strange… this started on the Internet last summer in Spain, then again in Germany. It persisted so much that SPV, my record company, proposed we get a ‘regarded German journalist’ to witness and report on the show, so we did.

“I’m not sure what you can do when something like this does the rounds. I’m still dealing with the ‘is it true you’re joining Van Halen’ rumours from years ago.

“If this continues, I’ll get a some of my professional associates to make statements about this nonsense.”

Ritchie Blackmore however, was unavailable for comment.

Former Raspberries Vocalist Eric Carmen All By Himself - In A Jail Cell

Eric Carmen has the perfect place to sing his hit song `All By Myself`. Alone in a prison cell.

The 80s hit-maker has been sentenced to 180 days in jail with a minimum of 30 days on a drunk driving charge.

Carmen was arrested on September 9, 2008 when he was pulled over by police and found to have a blood-alcohol reading of .234 percent, almost three times the legal limit in California.

Carmen was driving his new Range Rover when he hit a fire hydrant in Orange County.

As part of the sentence Carmen is not allowed to drink alcohol for 12 months and have an ignition interlock system installed in his car to stop him driving if intoxicated.

He will be subject to regular alcohol testing and must take part in an alcoholism-prevention program.

Carmen was lead singer of power pop pioneers The Raspberries in the 70s. Their biggest hit was the Beatlesque 'Go All The Way'.

His solo hits include 'All By Myself', 'She Did It', 'Never Gonna Fall In Love Again' and 'Hungry Eyes'.

Yes And Asia Plan Joint Tour

Progressive rock supergroups Yes and Asia are teaming up to tour North America this summer. Steve Howe, who plays guitar in both groups, will double up during the shows and Yes will feature on/off bandmate Rick Wakeman's son Adam and Benoit David, a Canadian singer, who will replace ailing frontman Jon Anderson.

The new dates, which begin in Indio, California in June, come two months after Yes scrapped a planned tour of America, citing "unforeseen medical reasons".

Bassist Chris Squire was reportedly admitted to the hospital on February 9 with an unspecified medical emergency which required surgery on his leg.

The unlucky group was forced to postpone dates in 2008 after Anderson suffered a severe asthma attack and was subsequently diagnosed with respiratory failure.

The singer has made it clear in recent blog posts he is unhappy with the fact his bandmates are touring without him.

Legendary Houston Blues Rock Guitarist Rocky Hill dies at 62

The Houston Chronicle is reporting that legendary guitarist Rocky Hill, brother of ZZ Top's bassist Dusty Hill has died at the age of 62.

Rocky Hill was described as “a monster on guitar,” though over four decades he could be a difficult creature to find. His career dated back to the 1960s when he was a hotshot player with blue hair joined on bass by his brother Dusty in a psychedelic rock band. That a Google search on “Rocky Hill” turns out dozens of entries on a town in Connecticut and nearly nothing on the guitarist is testament to how good a musician can be without ever finding his rewards.

Hill died Friday at his Houston-area home; he was 62. A statement claimed he died of “undisclosed complications of a medical condition.”

Documentation of Hill’s career requires a hunt. One of the two albums he made with American Blues, a 13th Floor Elevators-inspired band he formed with Dusty in the late-’60s, can be found online for upwards of $70 while the other is unavailable. His three solo albums can be found online, but are unlikely to be stocked at your local record shop. Still Hill was a flashy slide player with a gritty, soulful voice who always stated he was more interested in playing than making money.

John Rockford Hill was born Dec. 1, 1946. He was 10 or 11 when younger brother Dusty received a guitar for Christmas. But Hill was the child drawn to the instrument. He started out playing Jimmy Reed songs; years later Reed would have a slide piece custom made for Hill.

By 15 Hill was playing clubs in Dallas with his band the Starliners. Dusty learned to play bass guitar and also sang. They phased through a series of band names before settling on American Blues, a trio featuring drummer Frank Beard. They dyed their hair blue and played psychedelic blues rock common to the era: The trippy echoed vocals on songs such as All I Saw Was You and Tim Hardin’s If I Were a Carpenter; the twinge of folky pomposity that wafted through Fugue for Lady Cheriff.

But their 1967 debut album also showed a clear affinity for the blues evident on Mercury Blues.

The band split in 1969 and all three members moved to Houston. Beard was recruited by Houston guitarist Billy Gibbons of the Moving Sidewalks. They needed a bassist and Beard suggested Dusty; the new trio became ZZ Top.

“Dusty wanted to play rock ‘n’ roll,” Hill told the Chronicle in 1979. “(Dusty) wanted to make some money. And he did. … I wanted to play some blues. And I did.”

Hill fell in with Lightnin’ Hopkins, earning $5 a night playing bass and fetching drinks for the blues legend, as well as carrying his guitar. “It was a great idea,” he said, “but bad financially.”

Hill’s path was a bumpy one. There are stories of erratic periods with little or no performing and struggles with drugs and alcohol. Around the time of a 1972 interview with the Chronicle he was coming out of a period of inactivity and referenced trying to curb some of his chemical excesses.

Seven years later he was a fixture at Blues Wednesday at Anderson Fair, but still had no album. Hill wouldn’t cite a cause for the delay in making an album, but told the Chronicle, “I’m real hard-headed. I do things slowly. I have a certain way I go about doing things. I wanted to make sure everything was correct before I committed myself. … I’m just real careful about what I do.”

That care meant he didn’t get around to making an album until 1982 when he released Texas Shuffle, which featured Hill singing in a gruff bluesy voice. His playing was predictably sharp. Still six more years passed before he released another album, Rocky Hill.

Hill should’ve been a sure thing in the 1980s. His brother’s band was selling tens of millions of records of boogie-based mainstream rock, while Stevie Ray Vaughan, a Dallas guitarist eight years his junior, was also finally receiving his due. Hill suggested he still wasn’t interested in chasing success. “My reputation is terrible for flaking out on people ‘cause I always really have been true to my material and true to my art,” he told the Chronicle. “I’m an artist, first and foremost.”

After another lengthy break, Hill put out a lively album, Midnight Creepers, in 1994. We played when blues was not in vogue at all,” he told the Chronicle in 1993. “Now that blues is very hip, I’m gonna do a rock ‘n’ roll band. My career is backwards.”

Hill had played a show in Clear Lake in 2006, but according to an online comment by a family member, he’d been ill for more than the past year. He will be buried today in Como, where his mother was laid to rest. He’s survived by his wife, Joy Hill, his son, Christian L. Smith, brother Dusty, sister Sue Shadix and other family.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the Texas Liver Coalition.

Austin's Arc Angels To Bring Texas Blues Rock To NYC In May

In a prelude to their opening dates on Eric Clapton's spring UK Tour, reunited Austin blues rockers Arc Angels will be performing a special show at Fillmore at Irving Plaza in New York City on May 8th. The eagerly anticipated reunion features original band members Charlie Sexton, Doyle Bramhall II and Chris Layton performing together again. After more than a decade apart, the band has entered the studio to record new music, and besides opening for Clapton will be releasing a live CD/DVD with a US summer tour to follow.

Almost an institution on the Austin music scene, adoring fans have always considered the Arc Angels to be the stuff of legends – great musical talents working together through a time of crisis to create a tremendous band with a tremendous story. Founded at the Austin Rehearsal Center (ARC), whose initials gave them their name, four amazing artists united after the death of their friend and fellow musician Stevie Ray Vaughan. The band was intended to be a musical outlet and inspiration – and while it was exactly that, it also became something much bigger.

The band’s 1992 debut album release, Arc Angels, on Geffen Records met with much critical acclaim and managed to break onto the Billboard Top 200 chart. The sound was unique - raw and intense rock and roll steeped in the roots of Texas blues, but still radio-friendly and widely appealing. The group toured heavily over the next three years and did two much-discussed appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” But at the peak of that success, the band abruptly fell apart in 1994, concluding their run with a series of farewell concerts at Austin's Backyard outdoor venue.

Legendary Producer Phil Spector Convicted Of Murder

Legendary music producer Phil Spector was convicted Monday of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of actress Lana Clarkson in his Alhambra mansion six years ago.

The verdict means Spector, famed for his work with Tina Turner, The Beatles, The Righteous Brothers,The Ramones and others, faces 15 years for murder and at least three for gun enhancement when he is sentenced May 29th.

Spector, 69, who created the famed "Wall of Sound" recording technique during the 1960s when he worked with some of the biggest names in music, stared glumly as the verdict was read out.

The diminutive producer, who had arrived at court to hear the verdict in a trademark long jacket bearing a lapel badge reading "Barack Obama Rocks!" could face up to 18 years in prison when he is sentenced on May 29.

Despite protests from defense attorneys, Judge Larry Paul Fidler remanded Spector in custody until his sentencing hearing, stating that "public safety and public protection are paramount."

Spector is regarded as one of the most influential figures in pop music history. In the early 1960s, he scored hits including "Da Doo Ron Ron," "Be My Baby, Baby" and "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin.'" For his contributions to the music industry, Spector was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1989.

Doom Rockers Anathema Have Concert Canceled For Alleged Satan Worship

The Liverpool Echo has reported the following story about doom rockers Anathema being forced to cancel a show over allegations that they worship Satan:

A Liverpool band about to play to more than 1,000 fans in Tunisia had the plug pulled on their concert when authorities believed rumors they were Satanists.

Anfield group Anathema were ready to perform a sold out gig in the capital Tunis when they were told they could not go ahead.

They hoped to reschedule for a couple of night later but the gig was canceled a second time.

Guitar technician Darryl Anthony wrote in his blog: “Our promoter informed us that somebody has informed the Tunisian interior ministry that Anathema are Satan worshipers who eat black cats and drink their blood.

“The ministry have requested song lyrics to peruse over the weekend in order to put their minds at rest.”

Anathema formed in 1990 and have released a number of critically acclaimed albums, and although their roots are in dark heavy metal their sound has evolved over the years to a more melodic rock sound.

Their lyrics, often focusing on love and loss, have never been a matter of controversy and they often play special gigs with accompaniment from friends in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Ted Nugent To Reunite The Amboy Dukes For Detroit Music Awards

According to Billboard, Ted Nugent is ready for a journey to the center of his past. Nugent will reunite with his first recording band, the Amboy Dukes, on April 17 to receive a Distinguished Achievement Award at the annual Detroit Music Awards. The group also intends to play, marking the first performances of the "Journey to the Center of the Mind" band since 1968.

"This is a great moment to celebrate," Nugent tells Billboard.com. "I got the word about (the award) and said, 'Well, of course it must be done. It's as proper as tomorrow's sunrise.' I immediately reached out to John (Brake, vocalist) and Andy (Solomon, keyboards and saxophone) and started tracking down people." All these years on, Nugent says he considers the Dukes "the world's greatest garage band. We were part of that original fist of Detroit music, the confluence of Rhythm & Blues and rock 'n' roll and that Motown touch. My brain is jam-packed with stimulating memories." Nugent actually formed the Dukes in Chicago in 1964, then moved the group back to his native Detroit in 1968. Amidst a variety of lineup changes, the band released six studio and one live album, and the group ended in 1975 when Nugent embarked on a solo career.

The irony of the band, of course, is that while Nugent has long eschewed drugs, its best-known song was a psychedelic rock anthem (with lyrics by guitarist Steve Farmer). "I didn't have the faintest idea," Nugent says of the Top 20 hit from 1968. "I thought, 'journey to the center of the mind' -- yeah, it's good to be reflective, to journey inside yourself, to think before acting. That still makes sense to me, actually. If you look at the lyrics, it reflects either one of those philosophies, really." The awards show performance will be a rare chance for fans to catch Nugent in action this year. After celebrating his 60th birthday in December he's holding to his promise to not tour and spend time with his family. Nugent plans a few benefit shows and is working on new material, and he has a new survival reality series, "Runnin' Wild...From Ted Nugent," set to debut in August on TNT.

The extensive collection, which features all 13 of The Beatles' studio albums along with the 'Past Masters' compilations, will be released worldwide on September 9 - the same day The Beatles' 'Rock Band' game is set to come out.

A statement regarding the release said that a team of Abbey Road technicians have spent four years remastering the albums in stereo, resulting in the catalog being available to buy at its highest fidelity since it was first released.

Each stereo album will be available to buy individually, or as a collection in a box set.

A further box set of mono recordings - called 'The Beatles In Mono' - is also being released on September 9.

The new collection is the first time The Beatles' material has been remastered for CD since 1987.

It is currently unclear whether the collection will be available digitally. Speaking last month, George Harrison's son Dhani said the group is considering launching its own online application to sell its music digitally.

Aerosmith To Tour With ZZ Top, New Album Delayed

Health issues and touring commitments have combined to postpone Aerosmith's next album, according to guitarist Joe Perry.

Perry tells Billboard.com that the record sessions - for the group's first album since 2004's 'Honkin' On Bobo' and first of all-original material since 2001's 'Just Push Play', were delayed when he had to have surgery earlier this year to clear out an infection in his knee replacement.

Then, last month, singer Steven Tyler came down with pneumonia, after which the veteran Boston rockers "realized there wasn't any chance of getting it finished before we hit the road for the summer. So basically we had to push (the album) back, and when the band gets off the road, that's when we'll pick up the Aerosmith record."

Aerosmith's tour, the group's first since 2007, starts in June with ZZ Top. Perry says about 40 dates are set so far for North America, with South America, Europe and Japan also under consideration. The itinerary should be announced soon.

Perry - who was in Cleveland to attend Saturday's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony and perform the Yardbirds' 'Train Kept A Rollins' with Metallica, Ron Wood and inductee Jeff Beck - says Aerosmith has "probably two or three (songs) that could be mixed right now, maybe even more. But there's a long way between two or three and doing the 12 or 14 that you have to have to do a whole project." He says what's been done so far at his home studio with producer Brendan O'Brien "sounds like rock" and hews closer to the rougher sound of "Honkin' on Bobo" than the more polished production of Just Push Play. "It's everybody in the room with a producer cracking the whip," Perry notes, "laying the tracks down and getting a good take without having to (edit) too much."

Another Black Sabbath Reunion On The Horizon?

Classic Rock Magazine is reporting that despite the imminent release of the Ronnie James Dio helmed Heaven & Hell's debut studio album 'The Devil You Know’ on April 27th, Bill Ward has been speaking out about the possibility of another reunion from the original Black Sabbath.

In a recent interview, the iconic drummer insisted that the door is very much “wide open” for a full-blown, original line up, Sabbath reunion tour.

“I have an open mind when it comes to Sabbath” says Ward, adding: “We just haven’t done anything for the last three years. But the door’s wide open as far as Black Sabbath is concerned.

“Playing, doing anything with the original band, that’s where I would like to be.”

Ward was also positive about his relationship with Ozzy Osbourne, saying: “Ozzy and I have maintained our relationship, and I’ve maintained my relationship with the other fellas pretty much all the way through. Nobody’s far from each other.

“I saw Oz on his birthday. We went to Vegas and that’s the last time I saw him. But I actually spoke to him about three or four days ago. He’s doing fantastic, he’s doing really well.”

Carlos Santana Wishes Obama Would Legalize Pot

President Barack Obama brushed off a question about legalizing marijuana in his online town hall last month, but guitar god Carlos Santana says he wishes he would seriously consider it.

"Legalize marijuana and take all that money and invest it in teachers and in education," Santana said in an interview this week. "You will see a transformation in America."

During his online town hall on March 26, Obama fielded a question about whether legalization of the illicit drug would help pull the nation out of recession. Obama said he didn't think it was good economic policy, and also joked: "I don't know what this says about the online audience."

But Santana said making pot legal is "really way overdue, like the prohibition with the alcohol and stuff like that.

"I really believe that as soon as we legalize and decriminalize marijuana we can actually afford a really good governor who won't keep taking money away from education and from teachers and send him back to Hollywood where he can do 'D' movies and we can get an 'A' governor," referring to former movie action hero and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Santana made the comments as he was promoting his upcoming rock residency in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The show debuts May 27 and runs through 2010.

"It's a milestone for me because I always said I would never do certain things," Santana said, adding that the list included staying in one place for too long.

"Yet what is very different is this is the year I decided to do all the things that I said I would never do. It's a way of coming into a room that I thought was dark and I would be afraid and I actually bring my light to it."

Santana, whose hits vary from "Evil Ways" to "Maria Maria," said he is also working on two upcoming albums.

While the 61-year-old has previously talked about a possible retirement, he's decided to be more careful about predicting the future.

"Every time I tell God my plans he cracks up, he starts laughing. So I just decided to be quiet for a while and not say that I am going to retire and go to Maui and become a minister," he said. "God was cracking up. He thought it was a good joke. So I said, 'OK.' Every time I want to make him laugh I tell him my plans. So we'll see."

George Harrison To Get Hollywood Walk Of Fame Star

The Beatles' George Harrison is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

EMI Music spokeswoman Jennifer Ballantyne says Harrison's star will be unveiled April 14 in front of Hollywood's Capitol Records building. Harrison already shares a star with all four of the Beatles.

However, only he and former band mate John Lennon will have their own stars. Lennon was shot to death by a deranged fan in 1980. Harrison died of cancer in 2001. The surviving Beatles are Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.

Harrison's star will be the 2,382nd on the Walk of Fame.

Anvil's 30 Year Overnight Metal Success Story

Billboard is reporting in a truth is stranger than fiction story :"I don't believe miracles happen halfway," Steve "Lips" Kudlow says. "It took a lifetime for this to actually come to fruition, but this time I went up to bat and knocked it right out of the park."

Anvil, the influential yet decidedly underground thrash metal trio Kudlow started more than 30 years ago with childhood friend Robb Reiner, is finally having that breakthrough moment most bands only get to dream about. In the past three months, the group has signed a management deal with Rick Sales (Slayer, Mastodon), taken on booking agents Steve Strange (Coldplay, Eminem) and Scott Sokol (Oasis, Black Sabbath), hosted VH1 Classic's "That Metal Show," prepared to play headlining slots at the Glastonbury and Download (formerly Donnington) Festivals and geared up for the U.S. nationwide theatrical release of its award-winning documentary "Anvil: The Story of Anvil."

But it was a long way to the top for these rock'n'rollers. While its debut album, 1982's "Metal on Metal," brought the group some renown and influenced a generation of million-selling bands like Metallica and Anthrax, Anvil remained an obscure sideshow of the heavy metal culture for two decades. By 2006, the band had released a dozen albums on numerous labels with negligible sales and played dozens of grungy club tours while achieving none of the fame, fortune or trappings of rock'n'roll stardom.

In fact, on his 50th birthday, Kudlow was working the sunrise shift at an industrial kitchen while desperately trying to keep the band together and raise enough money to record Anvil's 13th album, "This Is Thirteen." And the break he had long been waiting for finally came in the form of a call from an old fan and friend, Sacha Gervasi. The one-time 16-year-old roadie for Anvil had gone on to an illustrious career of his own: He founded Bush with Gavin Rossdale and penned screenplays for Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Nicole Kidman and Keanu Reeves.

Gervasi's love for the band hadn't faded in the intervening years despite falling completely out of touch with Kudlow and Reiner. After tracking the group down in Toronto and learning that Anvil was still recording and playing shows, Gervasi recognized in his old heroes a universal tale of perseverance, dedication, passion and the uncompromising spirit of metal. He proposed not just a documentary, but a partnership.

"I financed the film, but we did it in such a way that in terms of the creative contributions, it's all favored nations between me and the band," Gervasi says.

"The whole beauty of this story is that it was a fan that came and did this with his own money," Kudlow says. "It's a miracle that we met Sacha 20 years ago only to have him come back and repay his childhood friends."

The Spinal Tap/Anvil comparisons are inevitable—especially with alliterative album titles, a drummer named Robb Reiner and an amp that really does go to 11—but it's the film's emotional core that has struck a chord with audiences. The movie debuted to standing ovations at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008, won festival prizes from Los Angeles to Sydney to Singapore and earned praise from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Michael Moore.

After several early screenings with live Anvil gigs caused a pandemonium in London, where the film was released in February, "Anvil" is now the highest-grossing music documentary in U.K. history.

VH1, which is distributing the film theatrically and on DVD in the United States, is throwing the full weight of the network behind the project and the band. Prior to the film's theatrical release in April, VH1 Classic is sponsoring the Anvil Experience seven-city tour: At each stop, a film screening will be followed by an Anvil live set. For the first time, VH1 added a movie trailer as if it were a music video in every block of VH1 and VH1 Classic music programming; the "Anvil" teaser will run more than 40 times per week throughout April. The DVD release and TV premiere will coincide during the summer.

As for the music, three major labels are bidding for the soundtrack, while the band's self-released "This Is Thirteen" is flying out of the merch booth at every screening and gig. Due to the overwhelming demand, Anvil is also planning to record a new album soon. "This is a one-of-a-kind situation where by the end of the movie people have emotionally invested in us and then they can be a part of the epilogue," Kudlow says. "Their reaction has an effect on the way our lives continue on—by buying the CD they've changed our lives."

Bay Area Jam Rockers Moonalice to Become the First Band to Twitter Concert Music Downloads in Real Time

It's one small step for man, but one giant step for music. Moonalice, the Bay Area act that features musical all-stars including GE Smith and Barry Sless, is going where no band has gone before – a real-time Twitter concert. Always at the forefront of the latest digital developments, Moonalice will post their upcoming CD release show and party on April 3rd at Slim’s in San Francisco at www.twitter.com/moonalice Immediately following each song during the show, Moonalice’s sound team will take that song's audio, digitize it, upload it and “Tweet” about its availability — all before the group finishes playing the very next song. This is the first time that any artist has broadcast a concert in real time on the Twitter platform.

Twitter CEO Evan Williams says, “We are amazed by all the new ways people are using Twitter, and what Moonalice is doing exemplifies this to the core. Twittering a live show is a new and profoundly cool way for a band to reach its fan base and beyond. We hope to see more of this as bands see the value of connecting to their audience in new ways.”

For more info go to http://www.moonaliceband.com/

In addition to Smith (Saturday Night Live house band, Hall & Oates, Bob Dylan) and Sless (David Nelson Band, Phil Lesh & Friends), Moonalice includes veteran players Pete Sears (Rod Stewart, Jefferson Starship), Ann McNamee (Flying Other Brothers, Ann Atomic), Jimmy Sanchez (Boz Scaggs, Bonnie Raitt), Roger McNamee (Flying Other Brothers) and occasional seventh member Jack Casady (Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna).

On April 14th, 2009, Moonalice will release their self-titled debut studio effort. The band entrusted legendary producer T Bone Burnett to help transform the highly regarded Moonalice live act into a gem of studio wizardry. Burnett recently won both “Record of the Year” and “Album of the Year” Grammy Awards for his work on Robert Plant & Alison Krauss’ Raising Sand. Listeners are sure to notice the sound quality of Moonalice, due not only to its sterling musicianship and exceptional production, but also because it features Burnett’s innovative new XOΔE (CODE in Greek letters) mastering technology. In addition to the CD, the DVD-V is packed with a high-resolution stereo version (24-bit/96 kHz), as well as optimized MP3, AAC and FLAC formats, plus two music videos. The entire package comes at the price of a regular, single CD.

In addition to their Twitter CD release show, Moonalice is currently racking up the miles on a nationwide 2009 tour (see www.moonaliceband.com/tour for full schedule). At every show, the audience receives a free, limited edition poster, as well as local updates to the Moonalice legend. All posters are four-color offset lithographs, created by San Francisco’s finest poster artists.
