Band You Should Know : Drunk Horse

Having kicked around the bay area for over a decade, Oakland, California's Drunk Horse have defied trends in mining heavy rock's past. Evoking the chugging tempos and muscular six-string heroics of early ZZ Top, Foghat, and more obscure blues-rock boogie such as Cactus, with some vintage Thin Lizzy and NWOBHM thrown in for good measure, the band have released 5 albums of prime retro rock that any fan of the classic sounds mentioned above would appreciate. Their latest album, 2005's 'In Tongues' shows the quartet even venturing into jazzy, Allman Brothers like territory. Live, they've even been known to play extended versions of that band's classic "Whipping Post". Check out a particularly fine version of "Skydog" live, originally from the album 'In Tongues', live at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall in August 2005 :
