John Thomas “Tommy” Crain, Jr., who played guitar in the Charlie Daniels Band (the CDB) for more than a decade and became one of the most prominent musicians in the genre of Southern Rock Music, died Thursday, Jan. 13.
During his 15-year run with the CDB, Crain played on over 20 of the band’s albums and co-wrote over 60 songs with the group, including the Grammy Award-winning song, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia.”
"Tommy Crain will always be a part of the CDB family and his music will always be a part of the CDB sound," Charlie Daniels said in a statement. "We have lost a good friend and the world has lost a unique, creative and precious human being. We send our deepest condolences to the family of our brother Tommy Crain. You were special, buddy.
