Vintage Vinyl News is reporting that the Blues Foundation has posted a short story on their site saying that blues rock guitar legend Johnny Winter is starting the year 2011 drug free for the first time in many years.
According to the posting, his manager, Paul Nelson, had been slowly decreasing Winter's methadone dosage over the last three years without Johnny being aware of it. Eight months ago, the dosage of the pills finally reached zero meaning that Winter is now drug free for the first time in forty years.
Nelson's gift to the singer/guitarist for Christmas was the knowledge that he was totally free of his demons. According to the article, "Johnny could not be more amazed, happier and healthier..."

I think paul nelson is Johnny's Guitar player?
It would truly be amazing if Johnny was taking zero drugs. His biggest problem was his consumption of alcohol and benzodiazipines (Klonopin) with his daily methadone dose. Has he stopped using alcohol and benzos as well? How about cigarettes? I believe the damage has been done. Now start eating healthy and lifting weights, etc.
I find it strange that someone else has to keep an eye on your methadone,I've been on drugs and methadone for the best part of 40 years, kicked the habit myself, you know very well what you are using, don't need somebody else to do that for you, I'm glad though that Johnny managed to get clean, know how hard it is, mostly between the ears when the physical part is over, good going!!
Strange if someone else has to lower your methadone dose without you knowing it, I've been on drugs and met for the best part of 40 years, kicked the habit myself, best thing I ever did, started living again, going to Johnny"s concerts all over Europe LOL
