Jerry Falwell Zapped By Led Zeppelin
The following story is courtesy of the Nypost.com:
Jerry Falwell's choir once took on LED ZEPPELIN - and lost. In his new book, Falwell Inc., Forbes reporter Dirk Smillie reveals how the Moral Majority minister was conducting a recital of church hymns when the earsplitting chords of an electric guitar shook the room.
"Falwell had booked his Christian sing-along just down the hall from the Seattle Center, where 14,000 fans had gathered for a Led Zeppelin concert," Smillie relates. Undaunted, Falwell "flapped his arms, motioning the singers to start again from the top. [But] it wasn't easy belting 'How Great Thou Art!' over 'Whole Lotta Love.'"
When he led his flock over to confront the band, "thick clouds of reefer hovered overhead . . . kids were using pipes, bongs . . . Couples were fondling each other in their seats as Robert Plant twirled onstage like a dervish."
Falwell labeled the arena "a coliseum of death."
