David Gilmour : "Pink Floyd Were Never The Most Proficient Musicians"

Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has revealed the secret of their success - lack of musical talent.

He says the band had to be different because they were not good enough to play blues like other groups of the era.

So they became legends after developing their own "spacey, atmospheric" sound by accident.

The singer and guitarist, 62, said: "We were never the most proficient musicians.

"When the band started, Pink Floyd were unique in that they weren't great blues players. In fact, we never did become that musically accomplished.

"And that's what pushes you to try other things."

Gilmour spoke after Uncut magazine listed the band's top 30 tunes.
He was delighted their tribute to original member Syd Barrett - Shine On You Crazy Diamond from the album Wish You Were Here - was named their best in a celebrity survey by the mag.

Nobody's perfect. We all can't go to Julliard. They can be humble sometimes.
