Rare Hendrix Recordings To Remain In Wolfgang's Vault

It looks like the unreleased Jimi Hendrix live shows which were supposed to be released for download as part of Wolfgang's Vault's announcement of an agreement with Universal Music to sell downloads to the public will remain in the vault for the unforeseeable future :

Universal Music Enterprises (UME) says there are no plans to release Jimi Hendrix archival material as part of a recent agreement with Wolfgang's Vault to sell vintage live performance downloads on the latter Web site.

As reported last week, Universal entered into an agreement with Wolfgang's Vault that gives UME the opportunity to release certain live recordings by UMG artists. The master tapes originated from the archives of late concert promoter Bill Graham and were purchased in 2003 by Wolfgang's Vault.

"UME will only be releasing those performances to which they have rights or can acquire rights from the artists concerned," a UME spokesperson told Billboard Magazine. "UME is just beginning the process of clearing rights and any speculation as to which performances will be released is premature. And, contrary to any previous reports, the estate of Jimi Hendrix has not granted any rights to the release of Hendrix's performances and any claims that indicate otherwise are not correct."
