This coming Saturday, November 27, on what would have been guitar icon Jimi Hendrix's 68th birthday, documentary filmmaker and promoter David Kramer returns to BB King's Blues Club in New York City to present his 5th annual Jimi Hendrix Birthday Tribute Concert.
This year features the Corky Laing Allstars led by co-founding member of Mountain Corky Laing on drums. On guitar is the original Spin Doctors guitarist Eric Schenkman, on bass is rock royalty Malcolm Bruce, son of legendary Cream bassist Jack Bruce, & on vocals Josh Horton of the band SUGA.
Fiery blues rock guitarist Lance Lopez returns for his 3rd consecutive Hendrix Birthday Tribute at BB Kings Club after receiving standing ovations the last 2 years. Featuring mind altering Hendrix inspired solos this year looks set to bring things to new heights. Joining the guitarist onstage will be Grammy Award winning Producer Malcolm Cecil, co -producer of all of Stevie Wonder's early 1970's-era albums, including the classics 'Talking Book' and 'Innervisions'- on upright bass. Also joining Lopez onstage will be long time Hendrix friend Paul Caruso on harmonica.
Also on the bill is blues rocker Popa Chubby. The New York City native showed up last November unannounced to do an encore with Lance Lopez and tore the house up. He will perform his very own set of Hendrix material this year.
Opening the show will be "Grounded", featuring Alex Raz age 13 on lead guitar, 6 yr old drummer, Julian Pavone (The World's Youngest Drummer) and 12 yr. old Katelin Deutsch on bass it will be the kids' first performance together There is also the possibility of surprise special guests showing up as in the past when people like Jose Feliciano and Dr. John arrived unadvertised & unannounced.
