Album John Lennon Signed for His Killer on Sale for $850,000

Weeks before the 30th anniversary of his assassination outside the Dakota in New York City on December 8, 1980, the album that John Lennon signed for Mark David Chapman hours before he killed the former Beatle is going back on sale for $850,000.

The copy of 'Double Fantasy' was signed by Lennon when he left his home that evening, only to be gunned down by the deranged Chapman as he returned from a recording session five hours later. The record was found at the Dakota entrance by a maintenance man, who handed it over as evidence. It was finally returned by authorities and is being sold by autograph dealer Gary Zinet's  www.momentsintime.com.

Says Zimet to the New York Post, "The album is the most extraordinary artifact in rock and roll history. It has Lennon's signature on the cover and Chapman's forensically enhanced finger prints on the sleeve. There are evidence markings from the NYPD. I originally sold it in 1999, but it has come back up for resale. The current owner doesn't want to be named because he received death threats."
