Classic Rock is reporting that Micky Jones, one of the founders of Welsh rockers Man, has died aged 63.Jones, who had been fighting a brain tumor, passed away at a care home in Swansea.
Merthyr Tydfil-born Jones was an ever-present member of Man, who grew out of a local combo called The Bystanders in 1968.
Man attracted a loyal following with their eccentric mix of West Coast psychedelia, prog, blues and country rock.
The band enjoyed their most successful period on the United Artists label in the early 1970s with albums such as Do You Like It Here Now, Are You Settling In?, Be Good To Yourself At Least Once A Day, Back Into The Future and Rhinos, Winos And Lunatics. Their 1975 album Maximum Darkness famously featured Quicksilver Messenger Service’s John Cipollina guesting on guitar.
Man split in 1976 and re-formed in 1983, until a brain tumor caused Jones’ departure in 2002.
Jones returned to Man briefly two years later but retired from touring and spent his last years in residential care.
