Band To Keep An Eye On : Corsair

Virginia may not be well known for bands featuring dual guitars ala Thin Lizzy or Wishbone Ash, but that may change if Charlottesville's Corsair have their way.

Formed from the ashes of Mass Sabbath, a Black Sabbath tribute band in 2006, the band got together with the challenge of creating "true adventure rock in the vein of the early 70's progressive movement". Based on the evidence of the just released well produced debut 5 track EP 'Alpha Centauri', they've met that challenge.

Influenced by Sabbath, UFO, Wishbone Ash, King Crimson, Deep Purple and other 70's heavyweights, one will also hear elements of Bowie, the space rock of Hawkwind and even 80's NWOBHM legends Diamond Head in the mix, all spearheaded by the twin guitar leads of Paul Sebring and Marie Landragin, who combine in the spirit of such hallowed teams as Gorham/Robertson or Tipton/Downing of old. For further evidence go to the band's MySpace, or one can stream, or download the entire EP at this location.

You're not kiddin'! Early Lizzy and UFO for sure. Real '75-76 feel. Right before Boston showed up and Disneyfied things. Before Steve Perry joined Journey and Disneyfied things. Before Kevin Cronin joined REO and Disneyfied things.

Before slick, corporate AOR formulas.
