Project/Object Re-creates The Frank Zappa Experience For East Coast Tour
Frank Zappa's two longest-running band members, Ike Willis and Ed Mann, and Mothers of Invention's original synth player, Don Preston, have united to faithfully recreate the live Zappa experience for an East Coast tour.
Ed Mann started his tenure with Zappa when he applied percussion overdubs to " Zappa In New York.” Ike Willis joined in 1978, and together or individually they appeared on every Zappa tour thereafter; and almost every album until Zappa’s tragic death. Both Ed and Ike were integral parts of Zappa's final tour in 1988, which some say was his most historic tour, and one that he richly represented to his fan base with several live recordings.
Often compared to jazz keyboard great Cecil Taylor for his style of attacking the keys with intense passion, Don Preston’s solos also reflect intellect, technical skills and a storyteller's way with a line. His playing, like his compositions, ranges across panoramas of mood and emotion, all colored with the freedom that comes from possessing remarkable facility. A founding member of The Mothers Of Invention, he performed and recorded with Zappa until 1974.
The band also features founding member Andre' Cholmondeley, Dave Johnsen, Eric Svalgard, Eric Slick (Adrian Belew Trio) and on most dates -Robbie "Seahag" Mangano (Sound of Urchin).
