Founding Frank Zappa And The Mothers Of Invention Drummer Jimmy Carl Black Dies At 70
Founding member of Frank Zappa and The Mothers Of Invention, and self described "Indian Of The Group," drummer/vocalist Jimmy Carl Black has passed away November 1st, 2008 after a short battle with lung cancer. Black was 70.
Jimmy Carl Black provided drums and vocals for the first 8 Mothers Of Invention releases, as well as the 200 Motels release.
At Steely Dan's 2001 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction Walter Becker asked the assembled if they remembered who the original Mothers of Invention drummer was. Becker has unsuccessfully lobbied the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for Black's inclusion as a founding member of the Mothers of Invention.
A benefit concert will be held November 9th, at the Bridgehouse II in London, England.
