Rock Profile Featuring : Clutch

One of the most uncompromising bands of the past decade and a half, Clutch have consistently done things their way. The Germantown, Maryland rockers first came on the scene with the 'Pitchfork' EP in 1991, and throughout their career have steadily metamorphosed. Starting out as somewhat of a hardcore influenced band on their initial releases, the band has continued to mature, refining their sound, adding diverse influences which range from metal, funk, progressive rock, blues and classic hard rock from the 70's. Thus, mere labels or categories don't fit with them. As of late you're likely to see an extended, almost Santana meets Deep Purple- like, Hammond organ inflected jam sitting next to heavy Sabbath or Zeppelin styled riffs, followed by a Howlin' Wolf cover, such as what was on display on 2005's 'Robot Hive/Exodus'.

A trend which has continued with their latest offering, the stellar 2007 release 'From Beale Street To Oblivion'. Featuring heavy riff rock alongside straight ahead blues boogie rock, even delving into a Southern stoner rock vibe at times, this is the work of a band at its creative peak. Far reaching in scope, this is an album which has the potential to have mass appeal, able to be enjoyed by metalheads, jam band aficionados, modern and classic rockers alike. Truly there's something for everyone, provided one has the musical taste to appreciate such diversity that is.

Fronted by vocalist Neil Fallon, consisting also of founding members Tim Sult on guitar, Dan Maines on bass and Jean- Paul Gaster on drums, amazingly this is a long lasting union. In a day and age when bands get together, then break up at a dizzying rate, they have, with the exception of the addition of keyboardist Mick Schauer in 2005, kept the lineup the same as it was 16 years ago. A fact which has allowed them to grow as musicians together, developing an almost jazz like telepathic sensibility between them in the process. http://www.pro-rock.com/

Dr Pepper To Give USA Free Soda if Guns 'N' Roses Album 'Chinese Democracy' Released This Year?

DR PEPPER WILL GIVE EVERYONE IN AMERICA A FREE SODA IF AXL ROSE RELEASES NEW GUNS N’ ROSES ALBUM, CHINESE DEMOCRACY, IN 2008

*Guitarists Slash and Buckethead Will Not Be Eligible For Free Soda

PLANO, Texas (March 26, 2008) – Tired of a world in which Americans idolize wannabe singers and musicals about high schoolers pass as rock ‘n roll music, Dr Pepper is encouraging (ok, begging) Axl Rose to finally release his 17-year-in-the-making belabored masterpiece, Chinese Democracy, in 2008.

In an unprecedented show of solidarity with Axl, everyone in America, except estranged GNR guitarists Slash and Buckethead, will receive a free can of Dr Pepper if the album ships some time -- anytime! -- in 2008. Dr Pepper supports Axl, and fully understands that sometimes you have to make it through the jungle before you get it right.

"It took a little patience to perfect Dr Pepper’s special mix of 23 ingredients, which our fans have come to know and love,” said Jaxie Alt, director of marketing for Dr Pepper. “So we completely understand and empathize with Axl's quest for perfection – for something more than the average album. We know once it's released, people will refer to it as "Dr Pepper for the ears" because it will be such a refreshing blend of rich, bold sounds - an instant classic.”

Show your support for Axl and get on the nightrain of encouragement at http://www.chinesedemocracywhen.blogspot.com/ -

Something tells me that they'll have a stockpile of soda left, but hey, what do I know? This could be an April Fool's Joke early, but stranger things have happened. The biggest joke is how Axl has flamboozled several major labels out of millions of dollars over the past decade and a half for an as of yet unreleased (except for supposed leaks) album.

UPDATED : This does in fact, appear to be true, as I received this reply from Mr Kooluris today in response to my query :

It's 100% true, and we're really excited Axl Rose is happy with our support. WE're all big Guns fans over here and can't wait to hear Chinese Democracy...We're hoping this is the year! CK

Travelling Through Time And Space With Guitarist Todd Grubbs

Todd Grubbs
Time, Space And The Electric
Grubbworm Music

Review by Nightwatcher

On his 4th album, 'Time, Space And The Electric', Tampa, Florida based guitarist Todd Grubbs has achieved a feat which has become increasingly rare. That is, creating an instrumental guitar album that is not only technically and sonically impressive, but melodic enough to capture the interest of non musicians as well. Straddling the middle ground between virtuoso and song oriented compositions, this has resulted in an album that can be appreciated on several different levels, one which is one of the most pleasant surprises of 2008.

Combining influences from some of the greats, such as Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker, Steve Vai and Frank Marino, Grubbs has learned the art of restraint. Lest one by scared off by bad memories of the worst of 80's shred wankery, this is certainly not one of those albums. Although technically impressive, the guitarist never overplays, always serving the composition as a whole. It's a rare musician who can pull this off, with the tendency being to show all that one can do, but this is no ordinary player.

For the album Grubbs has corralled an impressive list of exemplary, well respected guest artists, including keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Alice Cooper), former Megadeth guitarist Chris Poland, John Wesley( Porcupine Tree), Ralph Santolla (Obituary, Iced Earth), Mark Prator (Iced Earth), Sean Malone (Gordian Knot), Patrick Bettison (Acoustic Alchemy) and last but not certainly not least, keyboard legend Don Preston of Frank Zappa & The Mothers, all of whom blend into the surrounding sonic landscape seamlessly, without being too obtrusive, their contributions adding to the overall scope of the compositions rather than dominating them.

If you've been looking for an album featuring hot guitar work that's at the same time extremely tasteful, look no further than 'Time, Space And The Electric'. More melodic than the majority of Vai, yet at the same time exponentially more experimental than players like Joe Satriani, Todd Grubbs has fashioned a collection of material which will take one to a higher plane, and will undoubtedly rank amongst the top guitar oriented albums of the year. http://www.toddgrubbs.com/ http://www.myspace.com/toddgrubbs

Final Lennon TV Interview Coming To DVD

The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder: John, Paul, Tom, Ringo is finally available on DVD April 1st. This 2-DVD set first aired in 1975 and includes the last televised John Lennon interview and additional interviews with Ringo and Paul.

On April 25, 1975, John Lennon gave what was to be his last televised interview on "The Tomorrow Show With Tom Snyder." No one knew then that Lennon would be taking an extended hiatus from public life, taking time to raise his son and live a less public life. Speaking openly on the subjects of drug use, the breakup of the Beatles, and his immigration problems while seeking permanent residency in the U.S., the interview Lennon gave Tom Snyder in 1975 revealed he had tremendous humility and an affecting sense of humor.

Five years after that interview, Lennon was fatally shot while coming home from a recording session. The day after the shooting and Lennon's tragic death, "The Tomorrow Show" re-aired that last interview in tribute to him. Shout! Factory's "The Tomorrow Show With Tom Snyder: John, Paul, Tom And Ringo" contains the complete interview with Lennon as rebroadcast on December 9, 1980, along with interviews from that day with journalist Lisa Robinson and Lennon friend and producer Jack Douglas.

Band To Look Out For : Tequila Rockin' Bird

Taking their cues from such heavy rock legends as Guns 'N' Roses, Iron Maiden and even a bit of Zeppelin, Tequila Rockin' Bird, from North Devon, England show that quality classic British metal is far from dead. On their debut release, 'Screams From The Wild' these five young upstarts rock convincingly, and wouldn't be out of place in any 80's metalhead's collection.

Featuring powerful vocals courtesy of Rich Woods and strong melodic-yet-rock steady songs with impressive guitar work from Nick Watson and Kez Symes, the band sounds like they were magically transported here in the present from a long ago golden age of metal. What's even better is that if you go to the band's web site, you can download the entire album for free.

Cut from the right influences and presented authentically enough to impress the most jaded grizzled rock vet, this is one album you can't pass up. Forget Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails' recent free offerings, this one's for the real rockers and for the price, what the hell are you waiting for? Go here to download the album gratis.

ZZ TOP To Release First Album Since 2003

This report is courtesy of Billboard.com

With a live DVD, a new album and some touring on the docket, ZZ Top is revving up for a busy year.

While he was hanging out at this year's South By Southwest Music + Media Conference in Austin, Texas -- where he performed at Rachael Ray's Feedback party and psychedelic rocker Roky Erickson's annual Ice Cream Social -- Gibbons told Billboard.com that bandmates Dusty Hill and Frank Beard were back in Dallas "in the studio, preparing a new series of sessions of new material" for ZZ Top's first studio set since 2003's "Mescalero."

Gibbons says the band hopes to finish the album before the summer. "The challenge of the studio is much different than live appearances," Gibbons says. "The live experience is hundreds of distracting events. The studio is one microphone. It's one event, so it raises our level of attention to a place where we can really come together as the band we started off as. It's almost a small club environment, so it's really fun."

Before we see the album, however, ZZ Top is planning to release a concert DVD taped Nov. 1, 2007, at the Nokia Theater in Grand Prairie, Texas, near Dallas. No date or title has been determined yet for the Eagle Rock release, but Gibbons says the final product is "untouched. It's full of mistakes, and that's the way we like it."

Gibbons also recently taped a guest appearance on the May 16 season finale for the Fox TV series "Bones" -- "I thought I was gonna be the blind date or the boyfriend but, no, I have to be the dad," he laments -- and says that in addition to the recording, ZZ Top is starting to line up its 2008 road schedule.

"Hopefully we'll be able to return to the road as early as June -- even, if we can pull it off, into May," Gibbons says. "The European window of weather you can get out in is very short. So they are ready to rock. And we might pick up a string of dates through the U.S., too."

Former Bonham Vocalist Daniel MacMaster Dies at 39

In events which seem to be occurring way too much lately, yet another talented musician has passed away. This time, Bonham vocalist Daniel Stewart MacMaster, 39, passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center, on Sunday, March 16, 2008 due to complications from Pneumonia.

Daniel MacMaster released two albums with Bonham, named for drummer and sometime Led Zeppelin member Jason Bonham, and as their vocalist he cracked the Billboard Top 40 with the band's 1989 album ' The Disregard Of Timekeeping', which contained the single "Wait For You".

In 2006 the vocalist released a solo album called 'Rock Bonham...And The Long Road Back' on Suncity Records.

MacMaster was pronounced dead sunday night as he lost his battle with complications from Pneumonia. Daniel suffered from Streptococcus Group A Infection that entered his blood stream. Usually people just get the non fatal Streptococcus Throat with this bug but it attacked Daniel at his weakest and his organs started to shut down. The doctors tried everything while Daniel was in hospital, but unfortunately it was too late.

We offer our deepest condolences to MacMaster's friends and family. R.I.P.

The Incredible Joe Bonamassa

There's a reason why with his latest studio album 'Sloe Gin', Joe Bonamassa spent 10 weeks at #1 on Billboard's Blues Charts. Simply stated he's the best guitarist to come along in years. The natural heir to the heavy blues of Clapton in Cream, Jeff Beck and Rory Gallagher, Joe has a sound which inspires fans to travel literally thousands of miles to catch a live show, and drive blues purists crazy. Check out this fantastic 14 minute plus version of ZZ Top's "Just Got Paid" filmed live at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, Holland :

Celebrating The 40th Anniversary Of The Alice Cooper Group

Do you remember when Alice Cooper was a BAND? Well, at Nightwatcher's House Of Rock we do. For before Marilyn Manson, before Ozzy Osbourne, before any of the shock rockers who came along attempting to scare the shit out of parents and delighting young, impressionable youth all over the world -there was Alice Cooper.

Comprising of Alice Cooper (vocals), Michael Bruce (guitar, vocals, piano), Glen Buxton (lead guitar, vocals), Dennis Dunaway (bass guitar, vocals) and Neal Smith (drums, vocals), the original band rose forth from the Phoenix desert in the late 60's, and after several years spent honing and perfecting their sound, and with the help of producer Bob Ezrin, broke onto the national scene with the release of 'Love It To Death' in 1971. Several years of massive world wide success ensued, with the band becoming the one "parents loved to hate". Rock classics such as "I'm Eighteen", "School's Out", "No More Mr. Nice Guy", "Billion Dollar Babies"...the list goes on and on. Over 25 million albums sold, record breaking sell out shows throughout the planet, causing chickens to cower in terror, the band was one of the most successful of the 1970's.

Although Alice Cooper (the man) has gone onto legendary success since the breakup of the original group in 1975, it's this collective of talented musicians who set the template and secured the legend, and for that we salute the 40th anniversary of the Alice Cooper Group, March 16, 1968 - March 16, 2008.

Glenn Hughes To Get The F.U.N.K. Out May 11th

Frontiers Records is pleased to
present all the details about the
release of the highly anticipated
Glenn Hughes new album entitled
'First Underground Nuclear Kitchen;
(F.U.N.K.) on May 11th, 2008.

Produced by Hughes in Los Angeles, after countless hours spent
writing in his home studio, "F.U.N.K." is another magnificent
statement from the "Voice of Rock".

"It is a roots album, it is a true account of my musical heritage
but also fearless and multi-dimensional".

Once again Hughes has reinvented himself and his art, being able
to offer a new album which is truly emotional and picturing his own
current way to speak the language of music.

"The beauty of makin’ music, for me", explains the former Deep
Purple singer and bassist, "is to have a vast blank canvas. To
completely open myself up to the universe and the spirits, that
these days, live with me day and night. I am no longer in fear of
the dark, or what lurks behind door number 13. The songs on my
new album were written in,and around my Los Angeles home,
sometimes in semi-consciousness...sometimes, in a dreamstate,
sometimes fully alert, as I was in full jog down by the harbour...
these new songs are a true vindication. And realization, of the gift
of a serene life, one day at a time".

The result is a brilliant balance of the diverse influences that have
always been present in Glenn’s music, but with an incredible and
very addictive mood that helps creating a feeling of joy and true
enjoyment all over the album. "I believe that the hard work has
been worth waitin’ 4, this is 4 all my fans, and beyond: a deep
Musical Statement", concludes Hughes.

Once again all drums on the record were played by none other than
the great Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, while Luis
Maldonado took care of the majority of the guitars (JJ Marsh and
George Nastos only appear on 2 songs each) and Anders Olinder is
on keyboards (with Ed Roth guesting on 3 songs).

The final tracklisting of "F.U.N.K." includes the following tracks:

Crave
First Underground Nuclear Kitchen
Satellite
Love Communion
We Shall Be Free
Imperfection
Never Say Never
We Go To War
Oil And Water
Too Late to Save the World
Where There’s A Will

Hughes has just finished shooting a promo video for the fist single
"Love Communion" which will be included on the CD as special bonus:
stay tuned for an exclusive preview on YOUTUBE soon. For more info

Band You Should Know : Drunk Horse

Having kicked around the bay area for over a decade, Oakland, California's Drunk Horse have defied trends in mining heavy rock's past. Evoking the chugging tempos and muscular six-string heroics of early ZZ Top, Foghat, and more obscure blues-rock boogie such as Cactus, with some vintage Thin Lizzy and NWOBHM thrown in for good measure, the band have released 5 albums of prime retro rock that any fan of the classic sounds mentioned above would appreciate. Their latest album, 2005's 'In Tongues' shows the quartet even venturing into jazzy, Allman Brothers like territory. Live, they've even been known to play extended versions of that band's classic "Whipping Post". Check out a particularly fine version of "Skydog" live, originally from the album 'In Tongues', live at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall in August 2005 :

Going On A Voyage With Gamma

After the demise of Montrose in 1978, and after releasing a solo album 'Open Fire', guitar genius Ronnie Montrose formed yet another hard rock band Gamma, with Scottish born vocalist Davy Pattison and fellow Montrose cohorts, drummer Denny Carmassi, bassist Alan Fitzgerald and keyboardist Jim Alcivar.

Releasing 3 albums of tasty melodic rock before disbanding, although they weren't perfect, the band still put down some solid rock featuring soulful vocals and stunning guitar work. A prime example being this stand out track from their 1980 second effort 'Gamma 2', "Voyager":

Legends Of Rock Profile : Carmine Appice

When compiling a list of rock drum legends, Carmine Appice certainly has to be near the top of any credible list. Before John Bonham, Ian Paice or Neal Peart, there was Appice. A very strong argument could be made that, Keith Moon and Ginger Baker aside, he was one of the original heavy drummers. Ever since his pioneering work with Vanilla Fudge, with whom he rocketed to the upper reaches of the charts, reaching #6 on the Billboard Singles Charts in 1968 with an inspired, psychedelicized heavy slab of proto metal cover version of The Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On," the Staten Island born drummer has been rightly considered one of the finest ever to sit behind the kit.

A huge influence on many other all time greats, including Bonham, Appice's stature cannot be underestimated. In fact, either directly or indirectly his influence can be heard in pretty much any heavy rock drummer to come on the scene ever since. Throughout seminal 70s work with Cactus, Beck, Bogert & Appice, KGB, Tommy Bolin and The Rod Stewart Band (For whom he co wrote such huge hits such as "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" and Young Turks"), continuing throughout the 80s with King Kobra and Blue Murder, a stint with Ozzy Osbourne, as well as countless sessions. Most notably with Pink Floyd on their 'Momentary Lapse Of Reason' album, also appearing on albums by Ted Nugent, Jeff Beck, Eddie Money, Ron Wood and Rick Derringer, remaining extremely in demand throughout the decade. It would probably be much easier to create a list of who he hasn't played with than with whom he has.

Continuing into the 90s with Mother's Army, more sessions and hugely popular, record setting drum clinics, the turn of the millennium has seen a flurry of activity, as appearances on releases by Heaven & Earth, John Sykes, Tim Bogert, Steve Fister and his own 'Guitar Zeus' and 'Travers & Appice' projects fully attest to. Add to this the work with the reunited Cactus, Vanilla Fudge and Carmine Appice's Slamm!!, and you have to wonder when he finds time to sleep.

Never one to rest on his laurels, Appice has continued to forge a path that serves to reaffirm his status as one of the all time greats. An extremely astute businessman, he's been able to parlay his musical prowess into an exemplary, hugely profitable career that has spanned 40 years in the spotlight with no sign of slowing down anytime soon. http://www.carmineappice.net/

The album sees Uriah Heep back to their very best and is set to become a future classic sure to please their dedicated worldwide fan base and fans of progressive rock in general. Recorded in 2007 the album was produced by Mike Paxman (Status Quo, Judie Tzuke).

Whitesnake Bares Its Fangs With 'Good To Be Bad'

Whitesnake
Good To Be Bad
SPV/Steamhammer

Review by Nightwatcher

On the heels of the new studio tracks included on the' Live: In The Shadow Of The Blues' double album a couple of years ago, the legendary David Coverdale is back to celebrate Whitesnake's 30th anniversary with the first studio album by the band in over a decade, the hard rockin' 'Good To Be Bad'. Written by Coverdale and guitarist Doug Aldrich, it shows conclusively that there's plenty of life left in this rock institution.

So, how does it stack up to their earlier work? Very favorably actually. Consisting of 8 rockers and 3 ballads, this is a remarkably solid album from start to finish, and with a little luck, given the recent successes of veterans such as The Scorpions and the renewed interest in all things retro and classic rock, could mean a return to the charts. While Coverdale is the only holdover from the last 'Snake album, the current band, which consists of the previously mentioned Aldrich, former Winger/Dokken guitarist Reb Beach, bassist Uriah Duffy and drummer Chris Frazier (Don Henley) infuses the material with fresh intensity.

While not containing any epic tracks ala 'Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City' or 'Still Of The Night', what one will find is a fine encapsulation of where the band is today. No concessions are made to modern trends - tracks like the muscular opener "Best Years", the title track, or actually any of the songs contained here could easily be interchanged with the better selections from the band post 1984's 'Slide It In'. Coverdale is in fine voice, and proves that many so- called modern rock vocalists could stand to learn a thing or two...or three in terms of delivery.

If one were expecting a return to the days of the pre MTV bluesy band, you won't find it here. But what you will find is one damn fine album with no dropped tuned guitars, guttural vocals, or any of what are stock in trade for bands today. If you were a fan of the band 20 or 25 years ago, you can pick this one up without hesitation. 8.5/10 http://whitesnake.com/redsite/index.asp

Pink Floyd Producer Norman Smith Dies At 85

Norman Smith, who was an engineer for every Beatles recording session from 1962 to 1965 and went on to produce Pink Floyd's first three albums, has died at the age of 85.

Under the name Hurricane Smith, he also enjoyed hit singles in his own right in the early 1970s.

Smith began working for EMI in 1959, and in the absence of producer George Martin was in charge of The Beatles' first session at Abbey Road on June 6, 1962.

Smith worked alongside Martin as engineer on every Beatles single and album up to and including 'Rubber Soul' in 1965, earning the affectionate nickname 'Norman Normal' from John Lennon.

Promoted by EMI to a producer in 1966, he signed Pink Floyd and produced the albums Piper At The Gates Of Dawn' (1967) and 'A Saucerful Of Secrets'(1968), plus one disc of the double LP 'Ummagumma, although he admitted that he did not understand psychedelia and found it "difficult" to work with Syd Barrett
As Hurricane Smith he went on to taste Top Ten success with the singles 'Don't Let it Die' (1971) and 'Oh Babe What Would You Say (1972).

Born in north London on February 22 1923, he died on March 3.

Blues On TV: Back Door Slam, Jeff Healey

Just a couple of things to look for, if you're in the U.S. Rising young UK blues rockers Back Door Slam, whose debut album 'Roll Away' recently hit #7 in the Billboard Blues Charts, will be appearing live on CBS TV's "CBS Early Show' this Saturday, March 8th, 2008. Check your local listings for exact times, but judging by the name of the show, I'm going way out on a limb here and guessing it'll be early morning. UFO Bassist To Sit Out US Tour Due To Visa Issues

Well, once again it appears that founding UFO bassist Pete Way will have to sit out the band's upcoming U.S. tour due to his application for a work visa being declined. So, apparently it's easier for a suspected terrorist to get into this country than the bassist for a rock band? Unreal. C'mon, the only damage Mr. Way is likely to do is perhaps to the liquor stock.

Here's the official statement from UFO :

"The US Embassy in London has turned down Pete's (Way) application for a working visa - even though the respective authorities in the US homeland had already approved it. The US Embassy did not say why they turned down the application. We will now start to make arrangements for a bass player to stand in for Pete on the USA tour dates, and will let you know shortly who this will be."

Glyder Takes Flight On 'Playground For Life'

Glyder
Playground For Life
Glyder Music

Review by Nightwatcher

Hailing from Ballyknockan, Wicklow, Ireland, Gylder made a huge impression on in the know rockers with their self titled debut in 2006. Containing all of what made classic rock "classic", the album was one of the most pleasant surprises of the year, and served notice that the band was a force to be reckoned with. So, anticipation was certainly high for the follow up, and I'm happy to say that this is one band who have not only avoided the dreaded "sophomore jinx", but who have actually amazingly enough bettered their debut with 'Playground For Life'.

Featuring the same type of hard rocking romanticism which characterized the best of Thin Lizzy, truly Glyder are the natural successors to that band's legacy. None other than Philomena Lynott (Mother of Phil) has praised the band thusly. Guitarists Bat Kinane and Pete Fisher combine to form one of the finest guitar duos to come along, if not since Lizzy's Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson, then certainly since Judas Priest's Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing. No slouches are the rest of the band either, as even at a relatively young age bassist/vocalist Tony Cullen delivers quite admirably, handling bass and vocals ala Phil Lynott, while Davy Ryan rivals Brian Downey in his attack.

Although similar in style to classic Thin Lizzy, I do want to state that although the comparisons are apt, on this album the band has gone past the overt homage of the debut and are well on their way towards their own sound. Songs such as the bluesy opener "Gambler's Blues" and closer "The Merrygoround", with its slight Pink Floyd-isms show another side hitherto unexplored previously. You get hard hitting rockers such as "Sweets"and the title track along with more melancholic compositions like "Sleeping Gun", all coming together in a cohesive, complete package

Mixed as was the debut by legendary producer Chris Tsangarides (Judas Priest, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Y&T, Gary Moore) the production at times is almost cinematic, allowing the band to present fully formed their impressive musical vision.

The bottom line is, if you think all hope is lost in today's rock scene, and they just don't make 'em like they used to, this is a release that beyond a doubt will prove you wrong. Chock full of memorable hooks, razor sharp riffs and insightful, intelligent lyrics, Glyder are quickly becoming one of the top new faces redefining neo classic rock in this new millennium. This is certain to have a lock as being one of the top 10 releases of 2008. www.glydermusic.com

Those in the U.S. can download the album via iTunes or eMusic. Also it's available as an import or MP3 download at Amazon. In Europe one can purchase the album at the band's online shop at this location :http://www.glydermusic.com/buy.htm

It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This...Remembering Thin Lizzy

Widely regarded as one of the best live rock albums of all time, 1978's 'Live And Dangerous' shows the legendary Irish band Thin Lizzy at their peak. Recorded on the 1976 and 1977 tours for the albums 'Johnny Fox' and 'Bad Reputation', it captures in time one of the finest rock bands to ever come along. This version of "Still In Love With You" is considered by many to be the ultimate Thin Lizzy recording. A DVD was released on October 16th, 2007 which contains all the recorded video from the Live and Dangerous concert, including: (in order) "Rosalie", "The Boys Are Back In Town", "Emerald", "Dancing In The Moonlight", "Massacre", "Call On Me"(Original name for "Still In Love With You)", "Don't Believe A Word", "Are You Ready", "Sha-La-La", "Baby Drives Me Crazy" and "Me And The Boys" (Also Not Included on the Live Recording.) Eric Sardinas Revs His Engines With Big Motor

Eric Sardinas And Big Motor
Eric Sardinas And Big Motor
Favored Nations

Review by Nightwatcher

On his 4th album, the long awaited follow-up to 2003's Eddie Kramer produced 'Black Pearls', shows the Los Angeles based guitarist going into more of a southern rock direction while still retaining the elements which have made him one of the most exciting performers on the blues scene today. More organic in nature than the metallic boogie blues which characterized its predecessor, adding elements and refining the sound, it culminates in an album which will satisfy both blues rock fans and classic rock lovers as well.

From the opening picked notes of the dobro which lead into the turbo charged boogie of the Johnny Winter- on steroids like lead off track "All I Need", it's reassuring to know that despite a new lineup Sardinas hasn't changed his method too much. One thing you can expect is plenty of stunning slide guitar, and he delivers it in spades from beginning to end. Adding gospel styled female background vocals here, touches of organ there, it's clear right away that the intention was to expand the overall sound, and in that aspect it succeeds.

In fact, the only misstep throughout to be found is the too slick cover of Elvis Presley's'"Burning Love". Not that it's bad per se, but its polish seems to make it stick out like a sore thumb amongst all the grittiness surrounding it. Most likely this will go over well live, but here it seems too sterile. It's a minor quibble though as the rest of the album remains extremely solid.

Thankfully the album picks up again with the grinding riff rockers "Wonderin' Blues" and "Door To Diamonds" before ending with a quite pleasing southern fried version of Tony Joe White's "As The Crow Flies". Alternating from acoustic passages which wouldn't sound out of place with The Allmans, to slashing Zep like heaviness, you'll leave this one feeling satisfied. Produced and engineered by Matt Gruber, who has previously worked with notables including Yes and Queensryche in an engineering capacity, thankfully the sound is spacious, thereby suiting the performances well.

Down home enough for the blues crowd, heavy hitting for rock fans, this is a release that straddles both camps with ease. Pick this one up, but be sure to go out and check out this mercurial performer live, as Sardinas is without a doubt one of the finest acts touring the circuit these days. http://www.ericsardinas.com/index2.html

Plant Says No To Zeppelin World Tour, Turns Down £100m

Robert Plant has turned down an extra £100million fortune to take Led Zeppelin on a world tour.

The rock legend wants to concentrate on his new partnership with US country singer Alison Krauss... spelling the likely end of the famous band.

Led Zep fans had been longing for a tour announcement since last year - when the 1970s superstars reformed for a one-off show at London's O2 Arena.

Surviving members Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were offered a guaranteed £100m each for a tour of North America and Europe after a million fans applied for O2 tickets.

But after extensive talks Led Zep - best known for the song Stairway To Heaven - decided against the moneymaking opportunity.

Guitarist Jimmy Page, 64, was keen to do the tour this year and was backed by bass player John Paul, 62.

But singer Plant, 59 - already worth an estimated £70million - wants to concentrate on his new success with US country singer Krauss. The pair's duet album Raising Sand went to No 2 in America and Britain and they are starting their own tour in April.

A band source said: "Despite the enormous offer, the decision did not come down to money. They always said they would do the one-off show and then see how they felt.

"Jimmy had enjoyed the concert in December enough to want to tour. He argued they still had something to offer. He likes the idea of another chapter in the band - the grown-up tour.

"John sided with Jimmy. He loved making music with the others again.

"But Robert wanted to leave last year's concert as their legacy. They had proved they could still do it and that was enough.

"He has other commitments and is happier looking forward to those. Robert put the mockers on the tour."

Guitarist Jeff Healey dies at 41

This has been a sad week for those that love classic rock and blues. First Buddy Miles, Mike Smith of The Dave Clark Five, and now this sad news regarding the great blues rock guitarist Jeff Healey who has passed away at the way too young age of 41 after a long battle with cancer :

CTV has issued the following report:

Canadian Blues Guitarist JEFF HEALEY Dies At 41

Legendary blues and jazz guitarist Jeff Healey has died, his publicist said Sunday. The Canadian rock musician had battled cancer his entire life.

"It was something he fought with considerable bravery," his publicist, Richard Flohil, told CTV Newsnet.

Healey, 41, had also lost his eyesight to a rare form of the disease, Retinoblastoma, when he was only one year old.

The musician had performed with such acclaimed guitar players as B. B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert Collins and George Harrison.

His full name was Norman Jeffrey Healey and he passed away Sunday in the city of his birth, Toronto at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Healey first began playing guitar at the age of three and formed his first band while still a teenager, according to his website. He played with a very distinctive style, with laying his guitar flat across his lap.

One of his best-known songs, 'Angel Eyes', came from the Grammy-nominated album See The Light.

His blues band, simply called the Jeff Healey Band, has sold more than 1 million albums in the Unted States . But along with rock and blues music, Healey was also an accomplished jazz musician.

In his final years he had hosted a jazz program on Jazz-FM in Toronto, playing rare tracks from his vast collection of more than 30,000 78-rpm records.

Healey leaves behind his wife , Cristie, 13-year-old daughter Rachel and three-year-old son Derek.

Van Halen Tour Canceled! EVH Having "Issues"

Apparently, according to TMZ, the current Van Halen tour has been canceled.

From the web site :

"Sources tell TMZ the Van Halen tour has just been canceled!

We're told arrangements are being made right now to cancel hotel stays for the tour -- which was scheduled to continue through April 19th. Sources tell us the reason for the cancellation is Eddie -- that he is having "issues."

The last three shows had already been canceled. There have been reports that Eddie was out of it during concerts -- and video of recent performances in which his guitar playing was atrocious.

Reps could not be reached for comment."

Well, if this is true, I'm surprised it lasted this long. Is Edward back on the bottle again? I'd say he has much more than just "issues". He's got a whole damn subscription. So much for another studio album with David Lee Roth.

UPDATE : This has also been confirmed by our good friend Andrew's site Melodicrock.com
I highly recommend if you're into melodic rock to check out this site, as it's truly one of the best on the 'net.

Keith Richards Unaware Of Led Zeppelin Reunion

Keith Richards has took a cheeky swipe at Led Zeppelin over their reunion gig last year. When asked about the return of the band by Uncut the guitarist said he didn’t even realize they had.
Richards is not a fan of the Kashmir hit makers and completely ignored all the hype leading up to the monumental gig.

When asked about the reunion, Richards says, "They had one? Well, well done Jimmy (Page) and Robert (Plant)... Stairway To Heaven don't make it for me, baby."

He added that he thought ‘Stairway To Heaven’ wasn’t even that good a song, we wonder who’s ruffled his feathers?

In the wide-ranging interview, Richards spoke about his relationship with Sir Mick, the band's energetic front man.

He said: "Mick's a maniac. He can't get up in the morning without knowing immediately who he's going to call.

"Meanwhile, I just go Thank God I'm awake' and wait for three or four hours before I do anything.

"He's a power freak and there's nothing we can do about it."

The star was speaking from his home in the Turks and Caicos Islands to promote 'Shine A Light', Martin Scorsese's film about the Stones.
Asked about Sir Mick's on-stage presence, Richards retorted: "Excuse me while I laugh. He's a bit vain, let's put it like that."

Well, in case Keef wants to see what he missed, here's a clip from the reunion show, their stunning version of "Kashmir" :
